Iconic Horror Game Suddenly Banned From Google Play Store

An iconic horror visual novel has been removed from Android's Google Play app store without warning, leaving many fans confused and upset. Since 2008, the Google Play storefront has served as the official app and game distribution storefront on Android phones, listing millions of apps for free and paid download.

Like the ones on Apple's App Store, Google Play's apps and games are subject to terms and conditions regarding their content, and can be removed from the storefront if they depict sensitive content. Fans, however, aren't happy at this cult classic's removal, with many criticizing Google Play for its removal.

According to a BlueSky post by publisher Serenity Forge, 2021 visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club has been removed from the Google Play Store as of April 9, with Google citing sensitive content as the reason behind the ban. Players can no longer purchase or download the game from the storefront, although if they already have it installed, they'll likely still be able to access it.

"DDLC is widely celebrated for portraying mental health in a way that meaningfully connects deeply with players around the world, helping them feel heard, understood, and less alone on their journey," the post reads....
