It's been a puzzling year for Xbox — the unpopular decision to begin porting its games to PlayStation 5 upset the brand's faithful, and now Phil Spencer and his deputy Sarah Bond have been replaced by Asha Sharma, an executive brought over from Microsoft's CoreAI division.
Amidst talks of Xbox reconsidering its decision to become a multiplatform publisher, Alinea Analytics (via ResetEra) has revealed that Starfield is off to a slow start on PlayStation 5.
When Xbox acquired ZeniMax, and consequently Bethesda Game Studios, in 2021, many saw the acquisition as a massive victory for Microsoft, as Bethesda owns and develops two massive franchises in Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.
However, Starfield wasn't quite the critical hit that the studio probably expected after many years of development, though it did sell over 1 million copies on Xbox and millions more played it on Game Pass. As a result, there hasn't yet been any envy from PlayStation players regarding Xbox's ownership of Bethesda.
With all of that in mind, it's perhaps not surprising that PlayStation players haven't been rushing to play Starfield. According to Alinea Analytics, Starfield has sold over 140,000 copies on the platform since it released on April 7.
