Wizards of the Coast and publisher Random House Worlds have partnered to announce a Baldur's Gate 3 prequel novel centered on Astarion, penned by New York Times bestseller and World of the White Rat author T. Kingfisher.
As reported by Polygon, this new novel follows the high elf vampire during his years as a slave under lord Cazador Szarr, which we know a bit about already thanks to the game.
Prior to his servitude, Astarion worked as a public official in Baldur's Gate, but in 1268, he was nearly killed by a group of Gurs over one of his legislations. Cazador came upon the dying magistrate and coerced him into his coven of undead, promising him eternal life. Plucked from a coffin, Astarion was almost immediately subject to rigorous torture (and a diet of sewer rats), as his master carved a contract with archdevil Mephistopheles into his back, preparing him for the Rite of Profane Ascension.
Astarion has nearly as much dialogue as the narrator of Baldur's Gate 3 — I wonder who the favorite is?
The exact synopsis of the novel has not yet...
