It's not uncommon for games to undergo major changes during their development cycle. Scripts are often rewritten, animations changed, locations adjusted, and, on rare occasions, full segments cut. We saw it with games like Metroid Prime 4 (which was actually completely restarted), Halo, and Super Smash Bros.
It turns out a recent example of this is Resident Evil Requiem, with the game's director, Koshi Nakanishi, revealing in a recent interview that he cut a whole chapter during development.
The Resident Evil series is notorious for cut content. Resident Evil 4 had a cut "Chapter 0", Resident Evil 3 also lost some content, and like 4, Resident Evil 7 had a chapter removed. Resident Evil Requiem is the latest to join this illustrious list.
Speaking to DenFamicoGamer in Japan (and translated by TheGamer), Nakanishi first touched on the fact that Resident Evil 7, another game he directed, had a chapter cut, saying, "Up to now, I’ve talked in interviews about how Resident Evil 7 had a 'phantom Chapter 2' that got cut during development. It was supposed to be the section where you move from the guest house to the main house."
The director used this as a segue to discuss...
