There's always been a disconnect between the video game industry and Hollywood, even when video games were getting (poor) adaptations over the past two decades. It was rare for a traditional actor to delve into the world of video games — according to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Andy Serkis, these attitudes are beginning to soften.
In an interview with Variety, Serkis discussed his role in Sandfall's critically acclaimed RPG: "I'm so thrilled for these guys, because I love the idea of [Expedition 33], and I love the visual of it. I just thought it was beautiful."
Serkis is obviously no stranger to motion capture and cutting-edge filmmaking techniques, having played Gollum in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
"I don't see any difference between [acting in Expedition 33] or acting in films or on stage or on TV. It's exactly the same. You approach the character and build the character in the same way," he continued.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 wasn't Serkis' first role in video games, with the veteran actor lending his voice sparingly to the medium over the years.
