Resident Evil 3 Remake Looking More Likely As Reports Are Corroborated

Following the huge success of Resident Evil 2, Capcom told fans that if they wanted the developer-publisher to craft more remakes, they should let their voices be heard. Apparently the message was received, as multiple reports now indicate Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is getting the remake treatment Capcom just gave to its predecessor. A scattershot timeline illustrates how the project has come to be rumored.

The first person to report the news was YouTuber SpawnWave, who made a name for himself earlier this year when he was first to break the story that George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware were collaborating on a project we now know to be Elden Ring, the next surely brutal take on the soulslike genre.

Today, Eurogamer is publicly reporting that they too have heard from sources that say the project is underway at Capcom. In fact, Eurogamer has been told a Resident Evil 3 remake has been in development "for some time."

Along with strong sales, Resident Evil 2 holds the proud distinction of being the highest-rated game on OpenCritic of 2019, currently sitting at a Strong 92 average following 171 reviews. That unanimous acclaim came just a year after Resident Evil 7 also performed very well critically and commercially, garnering its own Strong score of 86.

Though a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake seems to be in development, it's not likely to be the next game in the famous horror franchise to launch. Project Resistance, a four-player co-op experience set in the world of Umbrella and the T-Virus, is due out in 2020. Fan reaction to that project has been mixed, but with more remakes likely on the way, in addition to the inevitability of Resident Evil 8, it feels like the series that helped propel survival-horror into the limelight is all the way back to prominence after several polarizing or worse releases for years.
