Dead Space (Remake) is a fantastic game that perfectly translates the entire fascination of the original into today's generation, bringing along genuinely great improvements without ever getting in the way of the original's vision. When it comes to this game, I can honestly only speak of faithfulness to the source material and meaningful refinements.

Bayonetta 3 is, in my opinion, one of the best action games out there and can best be described as energetic, fast-paced, intense, and fresh. Anyone who can appreciate character-action games and is not particularly sensitive regarding resolution and moderate framerate instabilities will be entertained first-rate here and will likely soon find themselves unable to free themselves from the grasp of the Umbra Witch.

I liked Asterigos very much overall; the trailer appealed to me greatly in terms of style, and fortunately, the game did not disappoint. The various difficulty levels, the mix of action-adventure and soulslike, the battle against one's own sense of orientation, and some beautifully made boss fights will remain with me in pleasant memory [...]

For fans of 2D platformers, I would highly recommend Beeny (if the nostalgic look doesn't convince you right away). Anyone looking forward to Super Kiwi 64 and wanting to partake a bit in its backstory can also jump in without any particular affinity for 2D games.

Airoheart is a decent Zelda-like clone, but it struggles significantly with navigation, suffers from technical rough edges, and unfortunately brings very few fresh ideas to the table. Anyone looking for an indie experience in the style of classic Zelda games is arguably better served by the two Ittle Dew titles, the two Blossom Tales games, or Oceanhorn. It’s a shame, because the initial impression from screenshots and videos was quite solid.

Like its predecessor, *Chaos;Childkept me thoroughly entertained, and I found myself reluctantly tearing myself away from it right in the middle of chapters. The deaths and the search for the truth behind them are gripping and at times dramatic, with the music enhancing the atmosphere. In between, calmer moments and humour lighten the mood, particularly in some of the protagonist’s inner monologues.

Chaos;Head Noah had me hooked (figuratively speaking), but it also often made me laugh. Particularly when it came to school, otaku life and some of Takumi’s fantasies, I often found it hard to keep a smile off my face.

Overall, I quite enjoyed Cult of the Lamb. The individual elements – namely the combat in the procedurally generated dungeons – don’t quite measure up, on their own, to other games that focus solely on that.

The gameplay doesn’t offer any particularly new ideas, but apart from the imprecise controls, it’s solidly executed. If you’re interested in an unusual mythical world, I’d highly recommend Catmaze; however, I’d suggest playing it in English rather than putting up with the dreadful German text. Plus: cats!

Back Again is an entertaining, quite short, yet affordable Jump & Run with an unusual atmosphere. Although it has some mechanical flaws, it features good level design and adequately addresses the central challenges of the perspective within the genre.

Blossom Tales 2 is a good Zelda clone that could have been very good with just a bit more polish, particularly in the design of the overworld. Compared to the original or also the two Ittle Dew games—which similarly come from a small indie team and are available on Nintendo Switch—Blossom Tales 2 is the inferior choice. Nevertheless, anyone looking for more Zelda-style gameplay can pick it up without hesitation.

Aquadine is a very successful debut from SoftColors. The characters—and especially the world—are well developed, and the cast has a lot of charm and humor. At times, however, their impact may weaken slightly due to repetition. The atmospheric and varied musical score more than makes up for this. Still, it is also a rather sad story, dealing with Torrie’s serious illness, fears about the future, and at times even doubts about the value of one’s own existence. Yet friendships and family can provide a great deal of support, especially when the characters are not too convinced that they must handle everything on their own. Overall, I had a great deal of fun accompanying the girls on their journey and watching them grow up.
