Gaming Nexus's Reviews

Nov 12, 2015

Fans of the series will probably get a kick out of the use of the source material but it's hard to recommend this game to anyone but said fans of the source material. For everyone else, it's repetitive and probably isn't at the level of depth that most fighting games offer these days.

Yes, things feel a bit different this time around but do yourself a favor and give it a chance. Once you find the groove in Guitar Hero Live, which is the new GHTV mode, you won't look back or think about the way things used to be again. This is the future of guitar-themed video games.

9.8 / 10.0 - Fallout 4
Nov 9, 2015

Fallout 3 was seven years ago. Fallout 4 is one you can play, off and on, for the next seven. Congratulations, Bethesda: You've outdone yourselves again. You've made the Wasteland more beautiful, ugly, open ended, funneled down, thoughtful, and frantic than ever.

A more forgiving spin on the prison-break theme of The Escapists, The Escapists: The Walking Dead removes some of the high stress from the original and gives the player more room to breathe and enjoy what was great about it.

9.5 / 10.0 - Anno 2205
Nov 2, 2015

Anno 2205 earns a high recommendation for city-building and economy-management enthusiasts. The game builds upon previous series installments by refining the gameplay to further improve its best elements. In particular, the addition of the Arctic and Moon environments provide the series' best-yet sandboxes for building cities. City-building fans can rejoice: Anno 2205 is the next game they need to pick up.

8.8 / 10.0 - Rebel Galaxy
Oct 28, 2015

Rebel Galaxy is one of the best space games released in some time, both in terms of its vast content and that its low price that won't break your wallet. A slow beginning to the game and over reliance on grinding shouldn't deter gamers in experiencing everything that Rebel Galaxy has to offer to eager space going adventurers. It's difficult not to smile as your ship zooms across space, taking in the star-filled view, and listening to the Firefly inspired soundtrack.

8.8 / 10.0 - Halo 5: Guardians

It's not perfect, but this might be the best single-player Halo campaign ever written.  343 finally feels like it's taking the franchise in a new direction—and it's a good one. Just don't expect closure.

8.5 / 10.0 - NHL 16
Oct 22, 2015

All those stripped out game modes are back and they're just as fun as they should be. Gameplay is better than its ever been for both veterans and rookies while the presentation is spot-on and a pleasure to take in. There's no denying that the NHL franchise is back to where it should be.

If you somehow still haven't played Castle Crashers, now is the perfect time to do so. If you already have the game on another platform, it may not be worth the upgrade, because the game has been changed so little that you won't be missing anything new.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is going to be a tough sell for those who aren't familiar with the franchise. It's got a lot of questionable design decisions and feels like a more bare bones experience than past games of the series. But it's Fatal Frame, these games only come along in a blue moon these days, so savor them while they still exist.

7 / 10.0 - Xeodrifter
Oct 15, 2015

Xeodrifter is a short but sweet title. It's got some solid platforming, a well balanced difficulty, and a fun weapon system. It's a bit on the short side but is fun while it lasts, especially if you're still fiending for some Metroid-inspired action.

System Shock Enhanced Edition is clunky, confusing and still absolutely brilliant. Night Dive has done impressive work to make this game playable on modern hardware, but the game still has a steep learning curve. A complicated and chilling experience await those who dare to enter System Shock.

Might & Magic Heroes VII is an okay game overall, but seems like it's more for existing fans of the series and doesn't cater to new comers at all.  With no tutorial whatsoever it took me a good hour or so just to get started.  Outside of that the difficulty can be adjusted, but the ability to auto-play battles makes things a tad easier than expected.  This one is definitely not for newcomers to the series unless you don't mind fumbling around on your own for a bit while you get your bearings.

Fans of CivBE will want to pick this one up. While nothing groundbreaking has been added, the new features flesh out some gameplay from the original, and add the new frontier of aquatic colonization. Perhaps a little heavy on the micromanagement, the overall pace of the game retains that "one more turn" quality.
