The Digital Fix's Reviews
I am addicted, my sons are addicted and we have to share a Switch. Frankly, its hell. Once Forager gets its long claws into you, you're in trouble. Its so moreish, its a lot of fun and there is always something to be doing, some new items to find or build. Just go and buy this game now its great fun. Its definitely one of my favorite games of the year so far.
RAD's mix of randomized abilities, enemy variation and busy landscapes make for a middling rogue-like. These elements combined with difficulty that's too often mitigated with ranged attacks keep RAD from being truly radical, but there's definitely fun to be had.
A brilliant Indie time-killer that's easy to pick up but oh so difficult to put down, Dicey Dungeon deserves lavish praise for its simple design but perplexing gameplay. A must-have for deck-builder fans and dice junkies alike.
Technical difficulties aside, Horace is an endearing, nostalgic, platforming masterpiece. Even after having to start fresh at one point, I could not wait to jump right back in and play more.
Solseraph could have been a great game, unfortunately, its just not very entertaining. The city building bits are good enough but they get broken up by very bland platforming sections, they just don't seem to fit very well and feel rushed. It is certainly unique with its mixture of game styles but it is too disjointed to be enjoyed to its fullest.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a masterwork in the strategy RPG genre. Everything about it is honed, polished and customizable in such a way that series veterans and new players alike can jump in and find a staggering amount of fun, challenge and charm.
Even though Telefrag VR is fun at times, it mostly turned out to be a repetitive experience that's light on modes and features. I rarely found human players online and with barely any progression at all, I found the whole experience deflating. Its unfortunate, there are some good ideas buried underneath the surface of this VR shooter.
Far from the perfect port. The reduction in visual fidelity not only makes the game harder to enjoy, but makes sections of it tougher to complete. With that said, the underlying gameplay stands alongside the best tactical strategy games the Nintendo Switch has to offer, and the bundled Seed of Evil DLC is a welcome addition.
As I said before, I cannot recommend Shadowbringers more. The story, visuals, music, vocal performances, and gameplay all combine together to create a phenomenal gaming experience. Final Fantasy XIV has only gotten better over time, and after playing Shadowbringers I have simply no idea how they are going to better this expansion in the future. It really and truly is that good.
Friday the 13th The Game makes an attempt at a killing but merely manages to fall on its own machete due to its clunky controls and limited gameplay options.
Genuinely fun and cute, with a story line and visuals that will keep you enthralled as you play the short campaign.
Madden NFL 20 might just be the series' best outing to date. Between a less-oppressive Ultimate Team Mode, an excellent player career mode, and more exciting on-the-pitch plays it offers a whole lot of excellent content. Minor tweaks aside, Franchise mode could do with some love next year, but it isn't enough to dull these Friday Night Lights (sorry).
Beyond Two Souls is a mixed game, with many elements of the story amounting to binary choices, some aspects of the narrative being poorly fleshed out and gameplay regularly amounting to choosing whether to be terrible or not. At the same time though, there are enough satisfying moments that provoke empathy for Paige's character and moral quandary to intrigue and entertain those drawn to coming of age stories and tales of the supernatural.
RADtv could be the best VR party game there is, but it's held back by a few infuriating hiccups. Still, for only £7, this is a cheap, cheerful riot that's perfect for short stint carnage with friends and family.
In trying to be so many things at once, Songbird Symphony never truly succeeds at any of them. This is far from a deal breaker, however, as the game is an enjoyable and unique combination of elements. This mix is then paired with the adorable protagonist, funny writing with a lot of childish puns, and a bouncy soundtrack to create possibly the most wholesome game this year.
Run The Fan is a challenging and fun pick up and play puzzle game that is more about planning your next move than anything else. If you like puzzle games that test your wit and ability to execute difficult maneuvers under pressure, then this is a great game for you.
Chaotic and confusing, but at the least kind of cute, Let's Go Nuts feels more fitting to be played on a web-browser than the Switch.
Despite some initial freshness, Keepers of the Void doesn't add anything substantial to Fury's journey, other than an expensive way to unlock some new armour and weapons.
While Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is fun, I sometimes wished it pushed the envelope a bit more and tried something new. The game excels in multiplayer and playing your favourite characters from the Marvel Universe never gets old. Its combat is fun and gets better the more you upgrade your heroes. Its story is very cliche but that's expected. All in all its a fun pick up and play multiplayer brawler.
A sequel that treads very familiar ground whilst remaining fresh and innovative, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a great title that delivers on both its promise to give the player an immersive narrative, and also in giving them untold freedom to play the game however they want, as long as they can deal with a dumb hunger meter. Building might be bad, but has never felt so good.
