Critical Hit's Reviews

It all feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. Had it been a compilation of all three numbered God of War titles, it'd be easy to recommend without hesitation, but as it stands now it's only really worthwhile for God of War neophytes.

7.5 / 10.0 - J-Stars Victory Vs+
Jul 17, 2015

A large part of your enjoyment of this game is dependent on how well you know these characters and how invested you are in their respective series. If pitting Ace against Akainu doesn't bring a tear to your eye, you might not enjoy this game as much as I did. If you're an avid anime and manga fan then you'll most likely appreciate this celebration of it. With some polish and refinement; it could be a great series. I really hope that this isn't its final form.

The game is not without fault. It lacks the polish and scope of some of the previous LEGO games.  But if you're a fellow dinosaur nut and eager to indulge in some relaxed puzzle solving, collectible hunting or need to add something new to your Jurassic Park collection, then I'll gladly recommend LEGO Jurassic World. If none of this resonates with you… give it a wide berth.

While it doesn't offer any real innovation, Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure is a good update of the original title. It feels like the game you played all those years ago, but without the ability to suck you in for more than an hour or two of gaming. Fun puzzler, until you run out of new things to do and feel the drain of the repetition.

Farming Simulator has a long way to go if it is to be enjoyed by the typical gamer. Lack of proper tutorials, glaring AI problems, and a long grind make it nearly unbearable – at least to those who have zero interest in farming. For those who appreciate agriculture however, Farming Simulator 15 does exactly what it says on the box, and they will likely enjoy the product.

Yoshi's Woolly World is a challenging, cleverly designed platformer that as delightful to play as it is to look at. It's unbelievably beautiful, unrelentingly challenging, and undeniably adorable.

8.5 / 10.0 - Heroes of the Storm
Jun 19, 2015

Heroes of the Storm is the perfect place for newcomers to experience the MOBA genre. It's simple and easy to get into. It shouldn't be dismissed by veterans either. There is a layer of complexity that even the most hardcore of MOBA gamers can appreciate.

If you're looking for a certain thrill to accompany random acts of mass slaughter, you'll find it in plenty of other games on the market today. Controversy can only carry a game so far, before it trips itself up.

5.5 / 10.0 - Sparkle Unleashed
Jun 3, 2015

There's no competition in the genre on the Xbox One right now, so if you absolutely must shoot marbles then you probably can't go wrong with Sparkle Unleashed. However it feels, looks and plays like a mobile port - which is okay, because that's exactly what it is.

Splatoon is a vibrant, colourful and innovative competitive multiplayer shooter that's beautiful, addictive and undoubtedly fun - but a lack of maps and modes could hurts its lasting appeal.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an impeccable role-playing game, and one of the finest games ever created. Whether it's as large as tracking the Wild Hunt or as small as delivering a love letter, The Witcher 3 makes Geralt's actions count in the most incredible ways - creating a world begging to be explored for countless hours on end.

8 / 10.0 - Not a Hero
May 21, 2015

Not A Hero is an unforgiving and relentless dive into the world of politics, bullets and ballots. Silly, violent and nostalgic in all the right ways, it's strangely weird and gleeful attempt at winning votes with swift deaths and top notch level design.

Life is Strange Episode 3 falters in some areas but it was never enough to hurt the overall experience. With heartfelt moments and an incredible climax, this game proves that it can stand tall amongst the giants in the genre. I felt a bit disheartened by the incredibly slow and slightly boring second episode, but this one proves that this game is still hella awesome, and yes, I just said hella.

5 / 10.0 - Ride
May 5, 2015

Ride has some genuinely good moments going into the corner, but it fails to remember that it needs to hit the throttle in order to power on through ahead of the pack. Competent, but hardly excellent.

Difficulty spikes, lingering wait times and a weak story filled with flat characters prevents Code Name S.T.E.A.M. from realizing its potential. While still fun and rewarding at times, it just doesn't capture the imagination or hold my attention for long.

While it's a hard sale for those that have already played the game to death, even with all the changes, but if you've never played it before, it's an easy recommendation. Pick this game up as it's chocked full of content that is still well worth your money. It's no Bloodborne though.
