Gotham's underworld looms even larger over Batman. Bruce Wayne has become a public outcast, Harvey Dent is gearing up for his run as Mayor... things are looking bleak.
Mafia III is an engaging narrative with a sadly incomplete system, padded out by repetitive missions and tiresome collectables.
There have been a few solid play improvements on Civ 5, but not enough to justify its current price tag.
As much as I wanted to finish the game (I only had a few levels left to go) there were just too many bugs, which resulted in a frustrating gaming experience. The concept is there and it is a nicely crafted challenge for the puzzle-platformer fans, but I would wait for Gamesoft to fix the bugs before purchasing the game. But if this is done, the story, the artwork, and the challenge will make for a great gaming experience.
As a fan of the 40K universe there is quite a lot to like here… it does look authentic and you can see what the intention is… but as many have said, this is under-cooked. The desire is there but it could be a few patches before it really presents something worthy of donning the oversized armour and declaring your efforts for the Emperor.
Overall it's a lot of fun… sure it's immature humour but it's done with tongue in cheek (apply snicker here)… it also doesn't seem to have as much hate in it as Duke Nukem Forever did. High Score… would play with my Wang again!
Dragon Quest Builders combines the sandbox-crafting elements of Minecraft with the classic Japanese role-playing game systems of long-running series Dragon Quest, resulting in a fun video game spin-off that works. Aside from sometimes repetitive combat and personal preferences on its level of linearity, DQB is a game worth checking out for crafting-simulation lovers and fans of the classic JRPG franchise open to a new direction, but the lack of multiplayer is an omission which can’t be ignored when considering a purchase.
Ultimately, I feel as though FIFA 17 hasn’t significantly improved over last year’s effort. Sure, The Journey adds a new mode to play through and the graphics look great, but gameplay wise, I don’t see anything majorly different. EA has tweaked areas that didn’t need tweaking. I don’t like the new penalty and set piece system and the AI still suffer from bouts of strange behaviour. That said, FIFA 17 is still an excellent football game that will keep me coming back for more.
To comprehensively list all of the gameplay tweaks and graphical upgrades would take up far too much of this review; suffice it to say, I regard Modern Warfare Remastered to occupy the realm of complete remake more than being a simple remaster.
Gears of Wars is back and new developers The Coalition not only pay homage to what came before but enhance the experience. Sure, the mechanics are almost identical to the previous games but with new executions, vehicles, defense building plus new enemies/weapons and you have everything you need for a great Gears of War 4 experience!
Psycho-Pass seems like a re-run of the first anime season, but that was enjoyable so it works out okay.
Pinball FX: Marvel’s Women of Power is a fun virtual pinball game that really celebrates the amazing female characters from this comic book universe, especially from the animation and sound effects. The graphics are great and the two pinball machines are well designed that are bursting with colours, special effects and some traditional gameplay as it helps emulate a real-world pinball machine. So if you’re a Marvel fan and enjoy pinball, check out Pinball FX: Marvel’s Women of Power that is now available on Xbox One.
An addictively fun game for the RTS fan who doesn't mind a tough challenge even on the lowest of settings
In regards to gameplay, PES 2017 is easily the best in the series to date and arguably the best football game ever made. No other football game nails what makes this sport so universally loved around the world like Konami’s latest instalment. However, if this is enough to knock FIFA off its perch remains unclear. Ultimately, where PES is lacking is of course where FIFA is at its strongest – Authenticity. The distinct lack of officially licensed teams will always be a stumbling block, though, as before mentioned, there are mods available that add official kits and badges if you wish to change them.
Overall I was very happy with the experience (well that’s a relative term as their are some dark elements to the story). It’s impressive to see what Indie teams can achieve and the best part is we get games that just wouldn’t be made if the field was only open to the big production houses that have to “play it safe”.
Forza Horizon 3 is not just a racing game but it’s an experience and Playground Games have for now delivered the perfect car game for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC’s. It’s graphically amazing, boasts perfect in-game mechanics and overall, the single-player and multiplayer components work on all levels! Yes, it’s pretty much perfect with a great open-world illusion set in beautiful Australia and the only thing is missing, is that smell of rubber!
In the end, the Rise of Iron DLC expansion for Destiny shakes up this universe in order to give players new content to draw them back to this PvP and PvE shooter. Add in tweaked gameplay mechanics and some really impressive graphical treats to be found as you explore the Plaguelands and Rise of Iron will definitely keep you invested in this expansion for some very long gaming hours, especially the co-op aspect.
Dead Rising 2 and its spin-off cousin, Off the Record are solid re-releases that lack vital DLC add-ons released years ago, bringing down the value of the ports somewhat.
Dead Rising remains one of Capcom's most classic and ambitious games to-date, and the re-release is most welcome, even if a lack of new content or genuine remastering is present in the package.
