Although certainly not without its flaws, Battleborn is a solid foundation for Gearbox to build upon in the upcoming months. There's the feeling of a distinct lack of modes and variation in the mission structure. Adding enhancements to your character is a fun exercise and allows for a lot of experimentation, even if it can be a little hard to focus on during the heat of battle and the mixture of genres works surprisingly well, for the most part.
Both episode 1 and 2 have stayed true to the Hitman ethos.
With a terrific cast of characters, a compelling storyline and some genuinely laugh out loud moments, Tales from the Borderlands easily maintains Telltale Games' upward trajectory. The few minor audio and graphical glitches are easily forgiven due to the strength of the gameplay experience and the pace rarely slows down, although the fourth episode did seem a tad meandering.
The Walking Dead: Michonne was meant to be a closer look into a legendary character at her most emotionally vulnerable, a slice of her traumatic origin story we had never seen before. But while the first episode set the scene for a seemingly promising journey, the second fell flat, and the third and final episode unfortunately never quite comes full circle to provide a satisfying conclusion – even if Michonne herself seems to get some form of mental closure.
In conclusion, King’s Quest Once Upon a Climb is an endearing story about King Graham’s search for love in this wondrous fairy tale inspired world that I’m sure Roberta Williams and the old gang at Sierra would definitely give their blessings. Compared to the previous chapters, I found this current instalment a little on the easier side but thankfully the narrative held me quite captivated from start to finish and I’m really eager to see how this modern incarnation of King’s Quest plays out.
Compared to the previous game, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is an almost flawless experience on the PlayStation 4. Sure, there are a few clunky control dynamics such as interacting with the environment but overall Naughty Dog should be commended for putting together such a well-made game from start to finish. It's emotional, it's powerful but more importantly, it's probably going to be the most memorable game of the series with a theme of redemption and forgiveness!
Glowing stitch saves the forest.
Star Fox Zero is a fun game on the Wii U not only offers some entertaining gameplay but some immersive level design matched with first class graphics and audio. Sure it's a little dated here and there but overall, Platinum Games should be commended on bringing this game to the 21st century.
Given the digital price of Star Fox Guard, it’s an okay casual game but it doesn’t have too much depth or replay value once you have completed. It’s fun at the time, yet ultimately forgettable and the links to the Star Fox universe are tentative at best. Nonetheless, it’s a clever twist of a mobile tower defence game that successfully uses the GamePad and your TV to transform you into a “Star Fox” security guard for Slippy Toad’s uncle!
If you’re a fan of 2D retro platformers that test both your mental acuity and your thumb dexterity, then Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse should be right up your alley.
A fast game and a head rush in VR.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is a sturdy sporting title for the Nintendo 3DS that boasts some decent graphics, fun sound effects that would be expect to hear in Brazil plus some carefully designed sporting games that work on most levels. Sure, it does become a little tedious here and there but for the most part, it's a fun game to play from short to long bursts of gaming that also gives you enough incentives to come back for more.
Whatever your viewpoint on its faster pacing and shorter duration, Give No Shelter and the choices it presents the player as Michonne lead to one hell of a ride many will be divided on, but undeniably intrigued, by for the final episode.
While FreezeME has all the makings of a great 3D platformer (after all, it is following in Mario's footsteps) there's something about it that just doesn't feel right. There's something off-beat about the game. It could be the iffy controls, which aren't as responsive and tight as the Mario games from which it's inspired. The collision is far from perfect; as I was completing this review I actually came
StarCraft 2 Nova Covert Ops Mission Pack is a fun albeit short StarCraft experience but Blizzard really set the foundation for things to come and I can’t wait to see it play out. With around 2 hours of gameplay, maybe a bit more if you pace yourself, Nova Covert Ops is definitely a must have add-on for all fans of StarCraft 2.
The Outer Rim is a fun DLC for Star Wars Battlefront that tweaks the gameplay, throws in new characters and also weapons for players to explore. The new maps are quite detailed and although there are no new worlds, it still makes for some exciting gameplay as you shoot your way through the Star Wars universe.
Despite catering to a slightly wider audience than previous entries, the fact remains that if you didn't really enjoy the Soulsborne games before then Dark Souls III won't go any way towards changing your mind, as most of the barriers of entry still remain – Vague storyline, esoteric puzzle solutions, high difficulty and an overall lack of direction.
A puzzling management sim where you direct trains through history and across the globe.
Trackmania Turbo combines the thrill of arcade racing with the addictive short-form challenges of games like Trials. The track design is exemplary, if seemingly intentionally designed to elicit the maximum possible amount of frustration from players, and the pick-up-and-play nature of the game makes the barrier for entry incredibly easy.
The experience that this game provides has been long overdue, and I praise it for doing such a terrific job. Considering the series currently contains 720 Pokémon, it's understandable that about 80% of them don't even appear as background scenery. Even with the presence of dozens of support Pokémon I can't help but think it could have been even better if the playable cast was larger.
