When you take a step back and look at it, Dragon Age: Inquisition isn't a retreading or even a revival, it's a rebirth. BioWare has taken a franchise that was on the ropes and invigorated it to the point of that it can stand up to the major powerhouse RPGs of our time. Look out Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Mass Effect, this franchise hasn't surpassed you yet, but given the new direction, spark of life and massive scale that it needed Dragon Age has made its mark. Ignore it at your peril.
Aside from a few visual bugs and the odd agile guard that hasn't yet worked out how to climb down a ladder, players can spend many unhindered hours doing what Templars do best in Assassin's Creed Rogue.
Whilst the LEGO games may not be to everyone's taste, it is hard not to enjoy the exploration, comedy and adventure of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. With simple controls and easy-to-run-through levels, this is the perfect game to get into the LEGO franchise if you haven't played any of the previous titles.
Terraria's open-ended open world may provide a fun distraction for the highly-creative, patient, and motivated, but gamers looking for a fun, engrossing escape should keep on digging.
When we look at Assassin's Creed Unity as a whole, it's a favourable addition to the series. The new assassin is worthy of the title, the world is huge and filled with life, the game itself looks great and the free-running is better than ever. However, the co-op is more of a "take it or leave it" element. It's fun, no doubt about it, but it just doesn't feel as important as it should have been. You won't be missing out on a great deal if you decide to roam Paris alone but if you have a friend to tag along with, you'll find plenty of enjoyment. For the first title of the series exclusive to new-gen consoles, Unity is a satisfying game and any Assassin's Creed fan should feel right at home with it.
The question isn't if Sledgehammer succeeded in breathing new life into the Call of Duty franchise, it's more a point of how the franchise will cope in the future without them.
How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition may not have been the most expected game to come across to the Xbox One, but it's one that fans of this genre type should enjoy. While the story is mostly brushed over, and some frustrating encounters with the enemies can occur, the crafting and survival system that the game is based around is very strong and expansive. The inclusion of all of the game's previous DLCs will also give players a reason to come back, whether on their own or with a friend.
Sunset Overdrive is a blast to play; it looks great, it feels great, it pushes the limits of both the player and the console without straining either. It's why games were games in the first place, and is the best reason to date to upgrade to an Xbox One.
Forza Horizon 2 picks up where the first game finished, and improves on just about every area. The FM5 engine produces some absolutely stunning graphics, which is matched in equal parts by the audio and sounds of the cars. The world is as open as it can be and leaves the players to drive and race wherever they want. Add to this all of the single-player events, multiplayer races, co-op events, road trips, and car clubs, and this is a mammoth package of pure petrolhead pleasure. The festival atmosphere is felt throughout the game. It is fun from start to finish. Due to its diversity and replayability, it's hard to say what more you could want from such a title. In short, following in the tire treads of its predecessor, this could well be the racing game of 2014.
Borderlands 2 is what most people expected. More of the same, but better.
