This War of Mine is a fun, uniquely stylish and well-written game that gives players a fresh take on an old setting and asks them to try and survive.
Easily one of the most anticipated games of this year, Fallout 4 doesn't disappoint. Along with the main mission there are hundreds of side quests and other things to get up to on your travels through the wasteland, and it is easy to get sucked in. There are some bugs and glitches which make it frustrating at times, but overall it is an engrossing and really enjoyable play.
'There Came an Echo' is a must buy for everyone who loves Sci-Fi or strategy games. Iridium Studio's decision to place voice commands at the core of all aspects of the game provides a uniquely enjoyable experience that is complimented by a thought-provoking storyline and fantastic soundtrack. If there is going to be a 'There Came an Echo 2' sign me up and take my money now because I am already sold.
A near perfect experience with amazing characters, gameplay and environments dripping with atmosphere, Resident Evil 4 is an absolute blast throughout and this Remaster is only hampered by the awkward controls and the cutscenes for certain parts of the game. Resident Evil 4 reminds us why it is the king of the series and why it deserves the top spot.
If you were not a fan of the previous titles in the franchise Rogue will not convert, but if you are a fan Rogue is a must buy. Make no mistake about it Assassin's Creed Rogue is the Assassin's Creed game of 2014.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is an RPG that has players exploring the beautiful world of Mira, while helping the human race to survive on their new homeland. The story is slow to get going, but the game is packed full of side-quests and missions, meaning players will always find something to do. Meanwhile, the combat has an impressive amount of customisation, with a choice of weapons, skills, and classes, that allows the player to create fighting style tactics to suit their preferred play style.
DiRT Rally could be viewed as the Dark Souls of the racing genre; imposing to rookies, challenging, and realistic, yet absolutely gripping and full of reward! It'll initially scare some gamers, but once a comfort zone has been found - not least with the help of near endless options to aid, or challenge, the player - the game can satisfy most. A true representation of rallying, something that has not been achieved in gaming for far too long! It has some minuscule issues (once you see the PS2-age crowd models, you cannot un-see them) but, when it comes to the likes of Rally, Motorcross and Hillclimb motorsports, DiRT Rally really is the king of the road less travelled!
The decade old adventure has received a nice rejuvenation, that's fixed a number of gameplay elements, sped up inventory management and polished the aging, gritty visuals. That said it's also brought up a couple of new fiddly issues like laggy offscreen play and a lackluster new dungeon. Still The legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is nice update to one of the franchises best, a great way for fans to reminisce and a fantastic starting point for newcomers.
Shovel Knight easily cements itself as one of the best titles available on the PS Vita and considering the calibre of the PS Vita's library, that is no small feat.
Despite the minor faults and irritating PC controls, Inquisition is still a pretty spectacular game. Definitely worth getting
Funk of Titans is a solid performer in all categories. It does everything right in a completely original world, but what Funk of Titans excels at is using its simple controls to make it a simple game to pick up and play and a hard game to master.
With plenty of quality content for a reasonable asking price, Guns, Gore & Cannoli, is a steal so what are you waiting for, go and buy the game, capisce!
The lore of the story might be for a niche group of gamers, but what it lacks in originality story wise it makes up for in ingenious ways throughout the game.
Tales from the Borderlands – Episode Five: The Vault of the Traveler is a journey packed with action, laughter, and tears. Emotions are high, as players and characters alike question whether or not they made the right choices. Telltale has certainly created a powerful conclusion to the episodic series that successfully ties up all the loose ends.
Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a fantastic rhythm game combining charming characters and tremendously catchy tunes. Its lengthy story mode, engaging gameplay and wealth of options secure its place among the genre’s best and offer one of the most original takes on the franchise to date
The sleepy, small-town atmosphere, dream-like art design and sublime music, combined with a cast of both likeable and pleasingly hateful characters, a compelling story and interesting game mechanics has left me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode.
Tales from the Borderlands – Episode Three: Catch a Ride builds upon the set-up from the previous episodes and delivers a more intense atmosphere and deeper story development. Players who dislike quick-time events may get frustrated at times, but the majority give plenty of reaction time and serve to both hold attention and up the action.
This game will keep you entertained for hours at a time, as well as make your brain do some work. If its not already there, add this game to your library.
Dark Souls III certainly lives up to the brutal difficultly levels of its predecessors. It constantly gets you to push your boundaries as you're encouraged to press deeper in each run, plus the tension and challenge very rarely lets up, even if it does occasionally resort to cheap tricks. It's robust, exciting combat is by far the most appealing element of this game, offering many ways to fight, allowing players a great deal of depth to character building and giving them many choices on how they would like to proceed through this melancholy world.
Freedom Planet is a fantastic fast platformer with lots of content. The three different playable characters all have different styles and levels, encouraging replayability, while the levels themselves include multiple pathways and hidden collectables. Any negatives are small, and easily forgotten about.
