Psychonauts 2 is simply one of the most charming and enjoyable games I’ve played in ages. The story-telling is nothing short of brilliant, the gameplay has been greatly improved upon, and the presentation is astounding. There are a few bugs that need patching, but that doesn’t stop Psychonauts 2 from being one of the best games of this generation.
Deck Nine manages to take Life is Strange’s classic signatures of indie music, small-town mysteries, and teenage angst and elevate it from the original creation. What could have been a bumbling soft-reboot of Life is Strange, Life is Strange: True Colors turned into the best game in the series so far.
The Artful Escape is a visual and auditory feast for the senses, but the final result almost makes you wonder if this would have worked better as a short film than a game.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a strange experience. The platforming is basic and the combat gets tedious after a while, but the surreal presentation of its loose interpretation of the Book of Enoch makes it an intriguing journey from start to finish, with beautiful art and music that help it stand out. If repetitive combat doesn’t bother you, it’s well worth a look for the spectacle alone.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a somewhat buggy remaster of a great game. If SEGA and Blind Squirrel can patch out the various bugs, this’ll be the best way to experience the momentum and vibrancy of Sonic Colors. Until then, it’s just a decent way to play it, with some swell but minor add-ons.
If you’re willing to let your guard down, open up your heart, and accept Button City as it is, you will get a very wholesome experience with lots of laughs and some very charming art.
Both games on the Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1 collection are unique and a joy to play through for their own reasons. Unfortunately, the way in which they’re presented feels dated and barebones, as they look the same as they did on the PS2 and have no new features or quality of life updates.
Boyfriend Dungeon is a unique game, but it hits every mark it aims for.
Overall, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is well worth the price for Iki Island alone.
No More Heroes III is a wacky, funny, and bloody swan song for the No More Heroes series.
I bounced so hard off The Ascent that it left a bad taste in my mouth and a wish that it spent another few more months in the oven.
Minute of Islands is an incredibly stunning game with a timely narrative, minimal gameplay, and small platforming puzzles.
World’s End Club has a great story, but it isn’t a great game.
If you like your survival horror games to include unsettling enemies, clever puzzles, and backtracking to unlock new doors as you explore a sinister location, Tormented Souls is the game you’ve been waiting for.
I can’t stress enough how much fun Aliens: Fireteam Elite is. If you’re a fan of the franchise, don’t pass this one up.
They will make video games after this but they shouldn’t, perfection has been achieved.
Recompile is a frustrating game. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game because I still had a lot of fun with it and definitely recommend playing it, as I knocked out the entire thing in a single session.
Very few games get as much right with their formula as Death’s Door does.
Even among fans of dialogue-driven adventure titles, I couldn’t possibly recommend Last Stop.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles may be Shu Takumi and Capcom’s best Ace Attorney work yet.
