Uppers is a fun and frantic beat-em-up that uses its tone to perfectly capture that shonen anime charm.
However, if you’re interested in a strong narrative, fun art, and completing simple puzzles, I Am Dead is the most fun you’ll have this year.
Transient isn’t a long game, and its gameplay tends to take a backseat to its storytelling, but if you’re looking for a cyberpunk mystery or a cosmic horror story, Transient blends them remarkably well to create an engrossing journey.
Amnesia: Rebirth stumbles a little with its narrative-based approach and certain gameplay choices, but every time I started to feel frustrated with its direction, it had a nightmarish encounter waiting to remind me that no one does heart-pounding terror quite like Frictional Games.
Onee Chanbara Origin is a repetitive hack-and-slash game that would be a fun rental at best.
You’ll play for the addicting bullet hell action but stay for complexities beneath its surface. Just don’t pull your hair out along the way.
If you’re into JRPGs and love a good narrative you won’t want to miss Ikenfell.
If you’re open to some edge, Postal Redux is a fun, if not slightly repetitive, twin-stick shooter that knows what it is and embraces its tone.
Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is a surprisingly strong kart racer that boasts a great deal of content.
Despite an unsatisfying conclusion, Raji: An Ancient Epic is a fun action-adventure game well worth looking into for anyone who wants an enjoyable story told alongside fast-paced combat or is interested in learning more about Hindu mythology.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time finds a comfortable place amongst the franchise’s finest.
While it’s a tough sell based on any of its individual pieces alone, you might check it out if the story intrigues you–as long as you remember it isn’t what it first seems to be.
Despite many flaws, Serious Sam 4 has made my day. It’s been a while since I played a game where there was so much humor and action at the same time.
The Walking Dead Onslaught isn’t a bad game per say, I’m sure fans of the series will find some fun in it, it’s just wholly disappointing when compared to the recently released Saints & Sinners.
Mafia: Definitive Edition is an engrossing and fun way to dive into the Mafia series.
Cyber Hook is as fun as it is fast, and rest assured, it is very fast.
This may be Paradox’s best game and it’s about…family.
With the promise of more content and tweaks, Iron Harvest could become something to keep an eye on for the competitive players out there. For now, it’s a solid effort that packs more style than substance, resulting in a good time.
Wasteland 3 is a credit to the revival of CRPGs in a time where mainstream audiences think picking a perk and slamming one button is the ‘RPG experience’.
There’s no denying that it’s fun and well-designed, with solid 3D platforming gameplay and third-person shooter combat, but the blatant lack of cohesion between these two styles of gameplay results in the overall package feeling a bit odd.
