SA Gamer's Reviews
It’s good for both long sessions and quick bursts. Do I think it’s the best simulation-ish game out there? No, but I do like the Disney aspect of it. After all, I can’t grow veggies one minute and have a dance party with Sleeping Beauty the next in another game.
In a genre that is so flooded with big budget titles the only way to stand out is to do something completely different and hope it pays off, and that is exactly what DICE and Battlefield 1 have done.
Batman’s popularity may be wearing a little bit as his novelty was quite high for a number of years, but playing as The Batman is something that will just never get boring regardless of the time.
Civilization VI feels familiar enough that it’s comfortable to pick up and play for seasoned fans, yet fresh enough that it feels like there’s some new things to try out.
Adding in extra characters to master (or beat up) and a few different outfits adds quite a bit to the game and if you missed the MKX mania, MKXL is a great place to hop on with all the extra characters included.
All-in-all I had an absolute blast with Rhythm Paradise Megamix. The songs have quite catchy tunes to them and don’t drag out at all. Quite the opposite actually as I felt that the songs should have been a bit longer at times. The RPG aspect to it was also quite comedic and doesn’t take itself serious at all. I highly recommend that everyone give it a try,
The game offers players both an adventure with purpose as well as a game that can be enjoyed by just wandering around slaying monsters all day. Dragon Quest Builders is a must try for all Dragon Quest and Minecraft fans alike.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Edition is an incredibly good package, that adds a lot of value to what is already an exceptional game. It is honestly one of the best games I’ve played this year, full of endearing characters, great moments, both big and small and even some of the best layered villains. The combat is fun and engaging, the exploration is on point and story, especially the Blood Ties expansion, is exceptionally told.
If you can look past the so-so graphics and presentation, and you happen to be a bike lover, then RIDE 2 is by far the most exciting on-road bike game money can buy. Just don’t expect it to perform a wheelie or endo in all categories.
Mafia 3 has good intentions, and a patch should be able to fix the graphical issues, but the boring missions needs a whole new direction. It's a sin that a game with decent mechanics finds itself knee-deep in the mud of a mediocre structure. Perhaps you should just paint it black.
XCOM 2 is simply exceptional. It has a solid narrative, the mechanics are at the peak of their capability and the game is incredibly addictive to play. You will always want to do one more mission and the emerging gameplay makes sure that everything is fresh and new. However, the console version really lets the experience down.
If you’ve been a long-time Gears fan, you have no reason to worry. This is definitely all you asked for and then some. If you’re a casual Gears fan, I’d still recommend it purely for the fact that it is an incredibly solid package and will last you a considerable amount of time. For those that do not enjoy the franchise, you won’t find anything new to sway your opinion since this is a refinement of the traditional formula and more importantly a continuation of the legacy.
FIFA 17 is another top offering from EA, that goes without saying. FIFA fans will flock to buy it purely because of the value that it holds. All the glorious licensing, Ultimate Teams and The Journey make it a solid product that will have any football fan pleased.
It improves on the shortcomings in Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Sticker Star and while very different to The Thousand-Year Door it exudes the same quality fans have been expecting form the franchise. A must have title on the Wii U towards the end of its lifespan.
If you and your friends still regularly play your 3DS then Mario Party: Star Rush is a fun entry to the handhelds library, but won’t keep your interest for a prolonged period of time.
All-in-all, NBA 2K17 is once again a brilliant, quality, pure value for money experience that will never let you down
As a whole, the collection is great for newcomers and fans alike. You’re getting three for the price of one. People, what’s not to like?
Destiny: Rise of Iron might not quite live up to what it should have been, but it gets very close. With a few more tweaks from Bungie, it might even get close to matching The Taken King.
If the story, characters and voice acting doesn’t get to you, the frustrating controls and level design might put you over the edge.
Forza Horizon 3 is the Godfather 2 of the series. It’s taken everything you loved about the first two games, added some 100s and 1000s sprinkles of pure magic, and you now have what is arguably one of the best racing games of all time. It’s for both the driving enthusiast and the clueless among us. Forza Horizon 3 is really for everyone. If you own an Xbox One or PC you owe it to yourself to be part of this vibrant festival celebration of automobile crack.
