SA Gamer's Reviews
Detective Pikachu, although limiting at times, was a good adventure puzzle game for all ages and more so for Pokémon fans but in the same breath it just is not a game that is capable of sending the 3DS off well in its last days of life.
MX vs ATV All Out is a poor representation of a sport that can be very exciting. It is poorly made and implemented, and could have been something good, had the developers put a little bit of effort into it.
Sea of Thieves is a sailing master class with epic visuals and a thrill ride for the first few hours of discovery, but the swell simmers down to a stark flat body of water consisting of the same thing all over again just in a slightly different place.
Baseball is not a sport that we here in South Africa know a lot about, but the MLB series does a very good job at showing us what all the fuss is about.
Far Cry 5 is the height of the series and gives new legs to exploration in open world games while keeping the freeform tools to take down places as you see fit. Welcome to Hope County, you will be here a while.
Coffin Dodgers is a game that could have been the indie analogue to Mario Kart, but instead it's a bland racer with almost no variety or attractive concept. It's as bland as it comes and you're better off saving your money and buying a whole host of better split-screen enabled racers. Don't even give it the time of day.
In the world of Scribblenauts the word is mightier than the sword!
Gravel takes a fun experience and makes it feel dull with lacklustre AI and a vehicle unlock system that removes any joy from getting a new car.
This is PlayLink's wackiest game yet, full of mini-games to test your friendship or have some fun stabbing someone in the back to steal the victory. You can even try to blame Fox for it and say that he made you do it.
Bravo Team is boring and unimpressive. If it was included with a VR Worlds sequel, it might have been a different story. Unfortunately it's a standalone package that looks and feels like an excuse to sell aim controllers.
Moss takes you on a virtual fairy tale as you aid a brave mouse in her adventures. It's short, but will leave a lasting impression on you in a game that can only be experienced in VR.
Metal Gear Survive is a mediocre endeavour at trying to let a storied franchise meet a genre that lost steam two years ago. It feels dated in almost every aspect made worse by what feels like an under-developed game. It hardly does anything extensively bad but it doesn't attempt to do anything with the core system. It is just another crafting survival game, except it has the Metal Gear named slapped on.
A fun game pack with a new world to explore, puzzles to solve and treasure to uncover. Adventurous Sims will have a blast in Selvadorada!
Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 are enjoyable, slick romps through a crazy hack and slash world. If you like dodging at just the right moment before unleashing a spectacular combo and a fast-talking protagonist, you owe it to yourself to meet this witch.
Typoman Revised definitely deserves a chance if you have never played a word-focused puzzle platformer before. While it doesn't quite hold the same impact as others in the genre, it still leaves a positive impression. If you ever wanted to play scrabble in the depths of fear, Typoman is for you.
Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame wants you in for the ride but forgets that getting basic fundamentals wrong can be the cause of frustration. The series has turned the bikes in the right direction, it now just needs to fix a few flat tyres to get it up to speed.
UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH Exe:Late[st] is an exceptional update to its predecessor that is able to bring the game out of obscurity with how well it lays its systems bare. It's a complex game that is well explained and offers up a fantastic fighting game experience. It might have a difficult name to remember, but it's in no way difficult to appreciate the quality fighting game experience on offer.
Welcome to a new great age, a place where our people thrive and become the talk of all nations. Or wallow in a dark age, refusing your citizens some comforts as you fervently pursue a way out of your predicament. Time to rise or fall.
The Station has heart but seems to end just as things are getting interesting, almost rushing to the climax instead of enjoying the created space for a short while longer.
Pop-Up Pilgrims follows the once loved Lemmings-like recipe and brings it to life in the VR world where layers and split-second decisions will be the cause of your joy or frustrations. There's nothing else quite like it in VR and is a welcome addition to the puzzle genre.
