A work of art, which exemplifies the direction in which the gaming indie scene should be heading, while at the same time showcasing why it should also abandon AAA techniques of conducting narrative.
"yet another game that strengthens the standing of Double Fine as pioneers in eccentricity, one of the few developers respectfully willing to pay attention to their bizarre ideas"
Time will fly as you play, as you’ll find yourself thinking “okay, that last game was fun. Maybe just one more.” I found myself playing until 2am after having started around 11pm
"I quite enjoyed my time with Mirror's Edge Catalyst, but the thin plot and uninspired world prevents it from becoming a cherished memory"
If you’re a fan of Risk or classic board games, then you might enjoy Risk Urban Assault and its new take on a well-known formula. It’s a perfectly passable interpretation of the game,
It’s a pretty good concept and theme, and the most stand out feature of Tom vs the Armies of Hell is its sense of humour surrounding this. The writing is top notch, and the narrated cut scenes I found to be a surprising hit. It’s a shame the actual gameplay sections only feature text dialogue,
You’ll have a lot of fun with Overcooked as long as you have people to play it with. As a single player experience it’s lacking, but then it was never intended to be a single player game.
If you are willing to spend some time experimenting with the menus and characters then you’ll enjoy Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness a lot more. The issue is the game has so many flaws and fails to take the series to the next level. It lacks basic things expected of a JRPG, whilst failing to include anything that ever feels remarkable.
Ultimately, Adr1ft is an exceptional experience which should be played by everyone who is a fan of the adventure genre. Its simple, yet extremely effective narrative also shows that the genre of the so called 'walking simulators' doesn't need an overproduced story, with hundreds of moral choices, and a cast of meaningless characters.
Prison Architect: Console Edition hits a lot of the right spots to appeal to fans of strategy and construction games. The fact that it lets you play the game with an emphasis on one or the other if you want, means that it'll appeal to a wider audience.
If only the devs have spent a little more time polishing the game up, to an acceptable standard, we could have had a real gem on our hands, however, not a single aspect of this title is developed to its limits. Everything feels cheap and unfinished, and the core of the tile, which should in the very least be competent, is just like the rest clunky and amateur like.
At its core, Assault Suit Leynos is an extremely simple yet satisfying game. And while it has been remastered to meet the ‘modern standards’, it fails to tick any of the contemporary boxes. Some will dislike it for the cheap, retro difficulty spikes, designed to make player’s life a living hell. Others will detest it for its far eastern art style
Resident Evil 5 might not be the Survival Horror experience that you’re after, but it might just be more fun then you remember or led to believe…SHEVA!...OK!
With a series edging closer to becoming stale with each release, new gameplay elements help both evolve and freshen up the series and above all else, this game is so much fun!
The combat is satisfying and full of strategy, the world is interesting and visually pleasing – the whole steampunk, western, space aesthetic is great, and even extends to the music with the band Steam Powered Giraffe providing the saloon band style soundtrack – and the story is quirky and comes with a nice twist.
Deadlight: Director’s Cut is the best version of a decent game. It’s sorted some of the technical issues the original had, but fails to improve upon the base as much as you’d like. It’s an uneven experience, with the opening act being far superior to the rest of the game. Although its additions don’t do much more than fix some cosmetic problems the survival mode does add a level of replayability that some may find addictive.
Umbrella Corps is a major let-down and somehow becomes a worse game then Operation Racoon City. This is a disappointing and cheap cash-in on the beloved franchise.
7 Days to Die, is as disappointing as it is unfinished. And just like its PC counterpart, the PlayStation 4 version of this particular title should still be labeled as alpha, rather than a finished product.
A great introduction into the ''Walking Simulator' genre, with a low price point, and satisfying amount of content.
If there ever was a game that could use the definition of “Nostalgia Glasses” then its Kick-Off Revival. Its screams nostalgia, but practically offers no evolution to the revived series.
