Super Burger Time does the series justice by greatly improving on the look and feel of the original. As Peter Pepper Jr. you have more mobility, more tools at your disposal to defeat your enemies, a considerable bump in the graphics department, and more than enough content to keep you busy for 20-30 minutes, which is on par with the amount of content arcade games offered back in the day.

7 / 10 - Soulblight
Oct 26, 2018

If you're looking for a challenging and dark top-down roguelike on Nintendo Switch, then Soulblight is going to cover those needs. It's an addictive experience that will keep you coming back for more even when the game chews you and spits you back over and over again. The Tainting Mechanic is certainly something different that sets this one apart from other roguelikes, and it's something I'm sure you'll get to enjoy.

I didn't like the game at first since it didn't look that great and the gameplay loop didn't grab me at first, but the more I played, the more the concept grew on me. I ended up having fun completing the main quests while the side-quests were taken care of, well, on the side. Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story is a budget release that mixes a hero school sim with a lite action-RPG, and it is thusly offered at a budget price of $15, so if you're looking for a different type experience, this one is certainly going to fit the bill.

Halloween Forever is a fun and short 2D platformer with extra replay value for those who like to 100% games. There are five levels to complete, each with a handful of sections, and you can probably speedrun the game in 15-20 minutes once you know where everything is, but getting to know the game that way is part of the fun. There is a full trophy list waiting for trophy hunters, and an entertaining action platformer to play over and over again to get there.

Gate of Doom is a fun button masher on Nintendo Switch that you'll certainly enjoy. As is to be expected of an arcade game from over 25 years ago, you're looking at playing for around 40-60 minutes or to be able to beat this mystical adventure. And since the game is a button-mashing fun adventure, once you've beaten it you can do it all over again with a different character, or even invite a friend to join you for some local co-op as you both take on the many monsters and bosses in your path.

Although the WWII setup is one that's been played out in a lot of games, The Memory of Us didn't feel like just a rehash of some other game. It's a simple puzzler that'll give you some fun for an afternoon or two, just not with the same depth story-wise that a game like Valiant Hearts had.

8 / 10 - Anodyne
Oct 23, 2018

Anodyne is a great throwback to the adventure games we used to play back in the day on our Game Boy, and I liked the way we could explore as we played, and that the game doesn't take itself too seriously. I definitively recommend this game to players looking for adventure games on PlayStation 4!

Find The Balance is a fun physics-based puzzle games on Nintendo Switch that you can enjoy on your own or with a soon to be ex-friend. There are plenty of puzzles to complete in the two single player modes, and with the auto-fall and endless modes the fun is certainly endless.

9 / 10 - MagiCat
Oct 21, 2018

Overall, if you like platformers, pixeltastic indie releases and/or cute games, then MagicCat is definitely the game for you! While it's not a game that requires a lot of experience with the genre, it still has its moments where it shines thanks to some clever gameplay and solid platforming sections that will keep you hooked until the end.

Shoot Out is a short diversion you can squeeze in between other games. It's one I didn't get a chance to play back in the day, and which is valuable to have on Nintendo Switch as a history lesson on how arcade games used to be way back in 1985. Other than that this one won't hold your interest for long once you've beaten it since you'll have seen everything it has to offer, and it's not exactly an arcade classic. But if you're in the mood for a short arcade experience, then this one will certainly scratch that itch. The game has not aged gracefully, but it's still a valuable part of Data East's history.

Sigi: A Fart for Melusina is a short but charming game on Nintendo Switch that you're going to get a kick out of playing. The game's pixel art style and its music will send you back to an old-school era, with the refinements you'd expect from a 21st-century game. While you can play the game docked on the big screen, I think it plays and feels better when enjoyed in handheld mode, and since it's only 20 levels long, it's the perfect game for you to play on the go. I have no real complaints about the game other than I wish there were more levels to play, so hopefully the team works on a sequel!

Reigns: Kings and Queens certainly is a unique type of game on Nintendo Switch. Its minimalist art style looks great on the TV and on the console's screen when in portable or tabletop mode. The humor is also fun and charming, and it will make you chuckle every now and then. If you're looking for something different, then be sure to check out this one on Nintendo Switch since it includes Reigns and Reigns: Her Majesty in a single package.

The Midnight Sanctuary is most definitely not for everyone, but if you would like to try something different in the visual novel genre with a dash of horror and Japanese culture thrown in for good measure, then this is certainly a good pick. With a handful of hours of gameplay in total, it is certainly worth the price – not to mention you can go back and re-watch your favorite scenes with the log feature!

Sly Spy is a short and fun arcade experience you can play at home or on the go. You're looking at 30-40 minutes at most to complete the game depending on your skill, as is usually the case for arcade games from ages past. The Johnny Turbo's Arcade continues to grow, and I look forward to playing more games in the series!

Oct 15, 2018

In the end, Lunar Ray Games didn't reinvent the genre with Timespinner, but they've done a truly enjoyable game that's likable from start to finish. If you're a fan of retro metroidvania, you'll enjoy it even more for its incredible art style and soundtrack. If it wasn't for the amazing Guacamelee! 2 that came out not too long ago, this would've been the best Metroidvania I've played this year!

8 / 10 - Nefarious
Oct 12, 2018

Nefarious is a fun 2D action platformer that does things differently by placing you in the shoes of the villain while introducing some interesting gameplay mechanics to spice things up. The game has some comical moments with clever one-liners, and as for replay value, there is no extra content to unlock and playthrough when you have completed the game, but you can go back to stages to try and collect all the crowns so that you can see an alternate ending.

For a walking simulator game, it's one of the best I've had the chance to play. The story is rather short but has enough stuff to do as you scan, and hack to keep you going until the end. Bloober Team have improved with this release when compared to their previous game, and I definitely look forward to seeing what they do next!

9 / 10 - Punch Line
Oct 11, 2018

I had a fun time with Punch Line. I got a really cool story with twists and turns that keep my head spinning, with some interesting gameplay diversion as well, that helped to move the story forward. The episodic structure was really cool, giving it a different feel than most visual novels. This felt more like a binge watch than playing a game. Check this game out!

Two Crude Dudes is a fun and short arcade-perfect port of a game that I definitely got a chance to play in a real arcade way back in the day, so I was definitely up for taking the game for a spin. Due to its arcade nature, the game does feature some cheap enemies that will try to overwhelm you as bigger and more powerful enemies close in on you. The good news is that after most attacks you will have a short invincibility window which you can use to quickly grab an enemy or an item to throw him/it against the rest of the group, so you won't end up dying that much if you're careful and make the most out of that window.
