Gameblog's Reviews

Initially meant to be released in 2011, Disaster Report 4 was not worth the wait. The Switch version of the game is a complete mess (old-timey textures, frequent FPS drops...) and the experience is not very captivating overall, gameplay-wise. The only appeal of the game is in its atmosphere, paradoxally slow-moving and contemplative.

6 / 10 - The Complex
Mar 31, 2020

The Complex can be enjoyed as a decent B movie, with its poorly written plot and cheap visual effects. The actors do their job though and there is a real replay value, since the choices made thourough the game have real consequences on the conclusion, with nine different endings to get.

7 / 10 - Paper Beast
Mar 31, 2020

Paper Beast is a separate work in the PlayStation VR catalog. Its strange universe and its endearing beasts are its strengths, as is the beauty of certain panoramas, especially those at night, which undeniably allow the player to escape. Special mention to the sequence of the oil spill which seems to arise from a temporal fault ... The game mechanics partly recall a previous game by Eric Chahi, From Dust , but what a pity that only the travel by teleportation is proposed. Paper Beast is a good game, but with free movement it would be much better.

Resident Evil 3 is a good game that doesn't manage to reach the heights that Resident Evil 2 did. Nemesis has a great new look but he doesn't instill fear like Mr. X did last year. The game is also quite short. Resident Evil Resistance has an interesting concept but suffers from balancing and technical issues.

10 / 10 - Half-Life: Alyx
Mar 28, 2020

Half-Life: Alyx is truly the new standard bearer for virtual reality. This is a major, not to say revolutionary, title, as was Half-Life and Half-Life 2 in their time. For more than 10 hours of play, we live the horrifying, supernatural and science fiction adventures of Alyx, as if we were there. A Masterpiece !

The expansion takes place on the Xylourgos planet, a surprising but welcome mix of Lovecraft and nordic cultures. It offers a great deal of action, guns and new creatures, but its gameplay and narration lack uniqueness, letting untapped potential.

These two additional years of development will have made an excellent motorcycle game. TT Isle of Man 2 is more successful on all fronts. It is above all the new content and the additional features of a real Tourist Trophy season that gives it a more ecumenical aspect. You no longer need to be an insider and a fierce competitor to the Isle of Man event. You can now discover this event gently and progress step by step with a real evolution curve. The fact remains that its demanding handling puts you to the test, so that you can enjoy all the pleasure of both finishing a race, but also being in googd standings.

The Saints Row series isn't renowned for the outstanding performances of its 3D engine but the Switch version of the game is the final straw, specifically in portable mode : aliasing, tearing and visuals bugs are still there. We can't say the same about the standalone Gat out of Hell. However, the game is still really fun to play.

While the country is going through an exceptional health crisis, MLB fans will not see their habits upset by the arrival of this new iteration, almost similar to the previous one. The graphic rendering is a bit more realistic, the sensations still just crazy but with more content.

Hidden Through Time is what you can expect from a "Where's Waldo ?" video game look alive : it's fun, makes time fly, and let us focus on some big dioramas through many historical periods. Let's hope that the map editor will give player reasons to come back again and again.

8 / 10 - Black Mesa
Mar 17, 2020

It started as an homage, and it became the best version of the game. Black Mesa is fantastic remake of Half-Life, that never betrays the source material and gives it what is needed to be appreciated by a modern player on a modern PC - even if Source Engine is definitely very old. Just keep in mind it's a well refined but not triple A game, and you'll be just fine with it.

10 / 10 - Persona 5 Royal
Mar 17, 2020

Whether you played Persona 5 or not, Persona 5 Royal is simply a must play for everyone. There is more content with updated gameplay mechanics that make the game even more enjoyable than before. The new confidants add a new layer to Joker, deepening our understanding of its psyche and our immersion in the process. Persona 5 Royal is just better than a Persona 5 overhaul.

The fresh thrill of discovering an uninhabited atoll tends to fade once such wild life gets cosier with crafted items, buildings, shops and incoming residents, until it looks like a village from the previous iterations. But the larger size of this wholly reshapable island, the customization's vertiginous level and the improved community interactions create an even more fertile ecosystem, hence Animal Crossing can slowly though decidedly stare further, towards New Horizons, equipped with an ever updating NookPhone.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the most beautiful games you will play this year. Every stage is a visual and artistic masterpiece, and Gareth Coker's brillant soundtrack is the most delicious cherry on the cake. Unfortunately, the game still suffers from technical flaws, which have yet to be definitely fixed.

Wolcen can be as fun as it is visually stunning. It has some brilliant ideas in terms of character development and feels great once you in a fight. But it also has a lot of technical and balancing issues that may prove that it needed more time before release.

More than a game, Separation is a poignant testimony entirely conceived and developed by a single man, bruised and suffering from depression following the loss of a loved one. Martin Wheeler simply opened his heart to tell us about the evil that consumed him, in the form of a PlayStation VR game that deserves our attention.

Space Channel 5 VR brings a new way to play this license from the Sega Dreamcast : motion recognition. Unfortunately, the story mode is too short. The game is however funny but its replayability is almost zero and is far from paying tribute to the cult game of the late 90s.
