Subtle changes, such as 60fps support on consoles and a better PC version, makes Dark Souls Remastered the definitive version of a classic. Navigating on twisty hallways and cheating death at every step is as fresh as it was back in 2011.

What Vampyr has in style with its looks, it lacks in consequence. An overall interesting direction mostly let down by uninteresting characters, quests and pacing issues.

Moonlighter might have shallow store management mechanics, but more than makes up for it with its amazing gameplay loop of dungeon exploring / looting. One of those games you can’t stop once you pick it up.

MachiaVillain promises a great setting, and sometimes delivers it. But the lack of a proper tutorial – especially if you aren’t accustomed to the likes of Prison Architect and Rimworld – leaves a lot to be desired. On top of that, often game breaking bugs can hamper the experience.

Distant Stars can be a bit of a hit and miss. The new anomalies are a huge step up from the original, but the frequency they show up leaves a lot to be desired.

Exctinction tries to do a lot of interesting things with its combo system, but its procedural generated maps, lackluster campaign, reliance on Giants to give any sense of accomplishment and overly repetitive gameplay loop are its downfall

Odd translation and wonky combat makes Ash of Gods not only to live in the shadow of The Banner Saga, it fails to capture what made the games developed by Stoic so amazing.

Vermintide 2 improves pretty much every aspect of its predecessor, except the one which matters the most, loot variety and vertical progression. Enjoyable in short bursts, but lacks longevity at the moment.

The illusion of choice is something games often struggle with, and The Council’s first episode is no different. Rather than relying solely on its narrative and mechanics to create an “atmosphere”, it pressures the player into thinking that every decision is extremely important. Thus, creating often unnecessarily stressful situations. Let’s hope the next episodes can fix that.

Underneath the lack of a proper tutorial and some odd interface decisions, there’s a neat game with an almost puzzle-like feel to it that hits some sweets spots when it comes to optimizing a colony for long-term survival. Shame the same cant be said about its colonists’ management / interaction.
