The magic of Secret of Mana seems to have faded during its transition to HD assets. Beyond a graphical upgrade that will certainly not please everyone, it is especially the old rhythm of the combat and lack of difficulty that make the adventure much more bland than the original. If you played the original, I would advise not to tarnish your memories with this so-called upgrade.
Fallout 76 is a weird, broken, messy, self-contradictory game. It’s as boring as it’s exciting, as mundane as it is haunting, as uninspired as it is unique, and similar to previous games as it is different. Sometimes when the lighting, the music, and your own mood align just right, for just a fleeting moment, it feels like the Fallout game I really wish it was, but the sheer shoddy quality of the product means I would never recommend this game to anyone. Even beyond the bugs and technical issues, it’s a poorly designed, janky-as-hell game. It has all the wonky combat and gameplay of Fallout but very little of the storytelling and world-building. As a budget-priced Steam early access game released on the down low, this could have been a fun little experiment. But as a tentpole Fallout release at full price with a collector’s edition that was shown off at multiple E3 conferences, Fallout 76 is beyond unacceptable.
If you hope of a thrilling adventure with intense battles against giants with EXTINCTION, then I hope you're ready for the disappointment. The race against the clock aspect of the game really kills all the interest and the pleasure to face the giants, and with really subpar graphics and not much to do, it's difficult to justify the price range.
Rise & Shine is a visually stunning, promising game on paper, but that does everything possible to contradict with its vision. While the developers claim that it's "NOT another run’n’gun clone at all", but more of a "Think and gun" both core game mechanics and elements makes it a flawed and unoriginal experience in a lackluster package.
Dynasty Warriors 9 might have managed to reboot a franchise that has been criticized for so long to not take enough risks, but gets hurt by its unmatched technical upgrade and repetitive gameplay. It's still at the root of it a Musou like all games, regardless of its open world setting and added RPG mechanics, but its niche appeal, painful framerate drops and crude textures will probably only make the game stand out in its own genre.
Lacking a clear narrative and suffering from outdated gameplay mechanics, Nights of Azure 2 : Bride of the New Moon will probably only appeal to fans of the series. The sequel doesn't bring anything new to the table, and is mostly crude in terms of execution which is a pity from a studio known for their great work on the Atelier series.
Even if it faithfully portrays the animated series' essence, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time merge two different game genres without truly making a successful blend. The dungeon-crawling part poses no real challenge thanks to exploitable flaws, and the adventure part is rather simplistic. If you're not a fan of the franchise, I don't expect you will really like the game.
Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls is a game I would recommend to only fans of the franchise, especially those that missed the 2015 PlayStation Vita version. This port is almost done at the bare minimum, with a partial upgrade of graphical elements, and a gameplay that doesn't work well on controller, but still is a decent story, if you have the patience to read through it.
Destiny 2: Warmind was a chance to regain the trust of Destiny fans, sadly like the previous one is just subpar. Individually set at $20, the content is not worth the price tag, you will probably fall quickly in the same routine, and will be left with 1-2 month saying simply: now what? I'm extremely worried about the franchise now and really hope this is not the road Bungie is going to keep on going with.
Sonic Forces is not a terrible game, but it ain't a good one. Full of cheesy dialogues, a storyline that doesn't make any sense, and weird additional gameplay mechanics, I feel that the Sonic Team's urge to create something fresh and new to the franchise is actually pushing them to overdo it. If only they would listen to their fans and stick to a traditional side scrolling platformer like this year's release of Sonic Mania.
Warriors All-Stars is a game content to pile up emblematic characters of Tecmo Koei's franchises around an heavy action gameplay. Suffering from an artistic direction that mixes weirdly, I can only recommend this game to true fans of the franchises and lovers of the Musou genre.
Previously remastered in 2012, this re-release of the original Devil May Cry trilogy on current generation of consoles is a worthy investment for those that never played the game. But with just a simple port to a higher 1080p and 60fps display, Capcom has unfortunately not added much to appeal to the hardcore fans.
