The charm and sheer enjoyability were enough to compensate for the shortcomings, to an extent, and at least hold my interest until the end. Considering that it took me upwards of 20 hours to complete and the procedural generation grants it some replayability, I’d say it’s pretty reasonably priced at $21.99. It also has the option of local co-op, which I didn’t personally try out but I can easily see how that would be enjoyable. One of my first thoughts, before I realized it was an option, was actually how great multiplayer would be. So, although it may not deliver on story and the lack of difficulty leaves something to be desired, I’d still recommend Children of Morta to anyone looking for an endearing indie that they can enjoy with a friend.
If it isn’t obvious already, SOS may not have the challenges of wide open worlds like the Witcher series, but it does everything it set out to do and it did it with flying colors.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is a poignant tale about the resilience of the human spirit, the bond between a brother and sister, and how people are united in the face of tragedy. It is shockingly grim but also incredibly moving, and worth a playthrough for the story alone. If narrative-heavy games are your thing, you should definitely check this one out. If you’re hoping for a challenging and fast-paced action game, however, you may be disappointed.
In the end, Frostpunk feels like a breath of fresh air (albeit a chilly one) in a genre that’s now super competitive. Despite its few missteps like the inability to find specific buildings and the fact that it’s a bit too short, it’s a memorable experience that does a great job blending two genres together, being both a highly functional city builder and a survival game that actually requires you to care about your civilization. 11-bit’s attention to detail is outstanding, which not only shows through the game’s beautiful art style but also in how it handles every member of your civilization. And, the fact that it makes you have internal ethical conflict is the added wrinkle in gameplay that helps make it a wholly unique experience that shouldn’t be missed.
Still, what Rad Rodgers is is a good (not great), $20 game that you’ll give a playthrough of and likely never touch again. Despite its repetitive level design, samey environments and repeated one-liners, it’s still worth the play. And actually, I’d love to see a sequel hit that maybe explores some of the ideas a bit more. For now, Rad’s adventure is worth taking, and you should give it a shot.
Randall deserves praise for its unique take on the once-popular side scroller beat ’em up genre. Its creative blend of crunchy combat, sci-fi elements, and parkour-inspired platforming make it one of the year’s best indie games so far.
Persona 5 isn’t just a game — it’s life-changing. It can inspire you to make a difference in this world. To Wake Up, Get Up, and Get Out There. It changed my heart as well, through the large, community I can call my family to cosplaying the characters I know and love. Persona 5 changed my life.
Halo 5‘s story was rather straightforward, but never boring thanks to the updated gameplay; in addition, the characters were far better developed in this campaign. Each character, far from being an anonymous suit of armor, has a personality and backstory that adds to the game. Guardians does assume that you know the lore and backstory of the universe, though, so familiarize yourself if you haven’t already. It also ended on an enormous cliffhanger, leaving the way wide open for a Halo 6. After this installment, I’m very interested to see what 343 has in store next.
Simply put, The Flame in the Flood is a stunning river journey with highly satisfying survival elements that casual fans of the genre will undoubtedly enjoy. Hardcore fans might find it a little on the easy side, but it’s an enjoyable experience nonetheless, with rewarding game mechanics that almost negate the lack of story and monotony of the environment. It’s the kind of game that sucks you in immediately and is completely addictive for a short while but then grows old fairly quickly. However, it’s also the type of game you’ll probably get the urge to pick up from time to time to see if you can surpass your previous survival record, so that alone makes it worthwhile.
But Disney’s majestic worlds and characters shine through its flaws, and with its combat, enhanced graphics, and Disney worlds, Dream Drop Distance HD is an essential for PS4-owning Kingdom Hearts lovers. Although the game has its few minor issues, they’re basically erased because of the game’s addictive combat. And now, we wait for Kingdom Hearts 3, wondering what sort of Disney worlds will make it into the upcoming fantasy game. If you’re looking for a great appetizer for Square Enix’s next entry in the franchise, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD: Final Chapter Prologue has all of the fantasy Disney goodness you can stomach.
If you like to be challenged, Rise & Shine is a game that not only presents some tough moments, but it also has a beautiful hand-drawn art style that’s bright and colorful. Despite the doom and gloom lingering over Gamearth and the warmongering space grunts of Nexgen that are trying to take it over, the game has a colorful aesthetic. Although it comes in at roughly four hours in its first playthrough, it’s four hours of a great arcade shooter. It’s likely that you haven’t heard of Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team just yet, but you should probably try to remember the name because Rise & Shine is sure to be one of 2017’s most underappreciated game; we can’t wait to see more from the developer.
But let’s not forget that Dead Rising 4 knows that it’s a dumb Dead Rising game. It’s not trying to take itself too seriously, and if you can keep that in the back of your mind as you’re playing, you’re likely going to have some fun seeing how many dumb zombies you can kill with your dumb Christmas wreath as you play through in your dumb dino helmet. However, that fun is short-lived, and once you get a few hours in, you’ll find that you’ve had enough of what DR4 has to offer. If you liked Dead Rising 3, it’s pretty much more of the same, but without a co-op campaign.
At $14.99, Holoball is a must-buy for me, even if the multiplayer isn’t here yet. I would pay double that, maybe more, if it had the online multiplayer. Holoball is a game that is just too fun and addicting. The silly yet charming premise, excellent music by Dance with the Dead, and really cool vaporwave aesthetic add up to one great package. If you have a PSVR and like tennis/ping-pong/racquetball even a little, then you have to buy this game.
If you’re not much of a multiplayer gamer and you are only in it for the zombies and campaign, I can wholeheartedly and emphatically recommend you pick up Infinite Warfare. But if you’re only interested in CoD multiplayer, like many fans of the franchise are, you might want to take your military leave right about now.
Still, this has proved to be one of the more interesting Batman stories in recent memory. This episode continues to defy our expectations after growing up with the character. Characters you thought you knew have changed, and that is really refreshing. Typically licensed games play it safe as to not alienate the fan-base. Telltale thinks about it differently. They play with your fan expectations and build a better story from it. After playing New World Order, we aren’t sure who we can trust anymore. If you’ve ever wanted a truly great Bruce Wayne story, Batman – The Telltale Series is more than worth the performance price of admission.
Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky is a great RPG that is both enjoyable to play and unique in its execution. The story goes beyond generic tropes, offering a unique take on life and death. Gameplay is fun and addicting, especially with combo attacks and the sidescrolling setup. Will this game hold up to Valkyrie Profile’s legacy? That’s for you to decide. However, Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky is a great title for fans of RPGS.
Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters : Daybreak Special Gigs is an enhanced version of the original game released in 2015 that takes the world a step further with improvements of combat and additional content. The story is where this game shines the most, featuring ghost hunting tales and interesting characters. Combat can be a fun experience at times, but it is hard to get used to. For those who are into Japanese games, visual novels, and paranormal stories, this game is definitely worth a look.
I hate to dismiss a game as “too difficult”, but RIVE is incredibly demanding without offering any incentive for enduring the frustration. I recognize that for some gamers, the satisfaction of beating such a game is incentive enough, and those people will undoubtedly find enjoyment in this game. Personally, a challenge is not enough to keep me interested, and RIVE fell flat in just about every other respect. While it was fun for a while and the dialogue was occasionally amusing, the lack of depth meant it got old quickly.
Crafting is also a big change. At any level, you’re able to craft anything, basically. The idea behind Legion‘s crafting is that as you’re basically leveling each item (there are 3 levels of crafting each item), and with each level, you’ll get bonuses and crafting becomes easier/uses less materials. I haven’t been able to fully attack my leatherworking like I plan to here soon, but I have dabbled, and it’s an intriguing idea that I think is going to pay off nicely in the long run because it means people won’t have to level from 1-800 from the start, but they’re able to level with mats they’re basically farming at their level, anyway.
For the $4.99 price tag, The Legend of Kusakari is worth the buy in terms of overall content and fun gameplay. It’s very cute, charming, and a good 5 minute pick-me-up game. Although the style of the game is similar to The Legend of Zelda from the logo to the button scheme, it’s a unique title that has plenty of content for it’s price. If you like strategy and gameplay focused titles, The Legend of Kusakari is worth it. It also does not take too much space on your SD card (roughly 300-400 blocks), so get your shears ready for a fun, Zelda inspired experience.
