As much a love letter to the fans as it is a brilliant blend of the best from previous games in the series.

A.O.T: Wings of Freedom (it isn’t named Attack on Titan for trademark issues within the UK, like the 3DS game before it) is a near-perfect way of bringing the series to consoles, and is by far one of the best licensed games I’ve played.

Almost every aspect of Rabi-Ribi is unbelievably polished. The developers are still working hard adding new content with updates even a year after its original release. While it is a shame that both the PS4 and Vita versions are little more than ports, the games are priced at an affordable £24.99 and £15.99 respectively. Rabi-Ribi is a refreshing gem in today's market and is a must buy for all owners of these systems.

Trails of Cold Steel 2 might not be a flawless title, with its few cheesy story moments aside, the game never lets down the strong momentum it built up from the predecesor. Falcom has proven time and time again that it can make an engaging JRPG, which while sticking to the norms of the genre, is polished enough to stand out from the crowd.

Princess Maker 2 Refine is very much a product of its time. The game does very little to guide the player, but instead leaves them to uncover all the little intricacies on their own. Its simple premise, but deep nature will keep you coming back for more. If there is one complaint to be had with Princess Maker, it would be the ridiculously long wait for this amazing 1993 game to be finally localised.

Root Letter is a game that touched me in a way I didn’t expect and it more or less came out of the blue for me, but I’m sure glad that it did! This might be my favourite game of the year and it’s been a beautiful, captivating experience I urge everyone to try. With a compelling plot and characters, alluring visuals and a catchy soundtrack, it isn’t difficult to not call Root Letter one of the best games released this year. If you like the sound of it then please buy and experience it for yourselves, and I’m excited to see what else is coming in Kadokawa’s Game Mystery series.

I couldn’t think of a better game to end a long running franchise than BlazBlue: Central Fiction. Just as it’s starting to show its grays, the game warps up most of the story threads. It has near flawless execution of almost every aspect imaginable and can be equally enjoyable for newcomers and long time players alike. And while this does end the Azure chapter of the story, we are sure that this is not the end of the BlazBlue universe, but instead a beginning for a new generation of titles.

If you own a Nintendo Switch there is absolutely no excuse to not go and pick up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe right now. Even if you put an insane amount of time into the game when it came out on the Wii U, just the fact that you can jump into a race wherever, whenever and with whoever you want makes this a no-brainer. The smart steering and auto acceleration mean everyone will be able to enjoy. If you are still deciding whether or not the Switch is for you, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe might very well be the system seller you are looking for.

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 doesn't really change anything fundamentally, but it brings Guilty Gear Xrd one step closer to perfection. If you still haven't bought Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, REV 2 is a perfect way to jump into the action since it includes all the previous DLCs. If on the other hand you already have Revelator, you can purchase just the REV 2 update for only 19.99. If you are still not convinced then you can always check out the PlayStation Plus demo.

While it's definitely atypical for the series, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a polished masterpiece, and an absolute joy. Not only do I hope to see other earlier Fire Emblem titles given the same loving remake treatment, but I'd love to see some of the fine-tuning carry over into the next brand new title too.
