Thumb Culture's Reviews

Jun 2, 2019

The story mode is a fantastic experience with a great mechanic when using your abilities with your character. This can be easily enhanced with future DLC’s and expansions to keep the single-player story going. The online experience is going to really help once you end each storyline to continue the adventure and hopefully have a good end game to keep returning. I can’t wait to pump in many hours into this game with the lore of Warhammer by its side and will give this game a Thumb Culture Gold Award.

8 / 10.0 - Rage 2
May 27, 2019

I have enjoyed every minute I have spent playing Rage 2 since its release, and I’m looking forward to diving into the DLC down the road. Rage 2 is going to get the Thumb Culture Gold Award from me for being so damn fun, in spite of its short length. It’s not often I play many games lately that I look forward to playing again. I definitely recommend it.

10 / 10.0 - Layers of Fear 2
May 23, 2019

Layers of fear 2 has been one of the best horror games I have played in a while, the psychological effect in your head really draws you into the game and the length and options of how to play and how to finish your game opens up a variety of things to do, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I will be awarding the Thumb Culture Platinum award!

I feel Bus Simulator 18 caters well to both Simulation fans and casual gamers well, whether you’re looking to play a game that gives you the feel of driving a real bus, or you’re just looking for a relaxing time killer you’d do well with Bus Simulator 18, The new map expansion looks great and I look forward to future updates and seeing how far they can take the map. I feel the game thoroughly deserves the Thumb Culture Gold Award!

I feel once you have played the story, there’s little re-playability as you know will know the ending and how it plays out. Its a very story driven game and this is where DLC’s and expansions are going to help enhance it and keep building on the world down the road. However, from someone who doesn’t pick up a single player/office game, I loved this game. It keeps me very immersed in the story to the point I had to take breaks before facing the world again and continue on with Amicia’s story. I highly recommend playing this game and from that, I award A Plague Tale: Innocence a Thumb Culture Gold award. Now, lets get back to contiuning on Amicia’s adventure!

6 / 10.0 - Bow to Blood
May 14, 2019

I couldn’t recommend Bow to Blood if you’re wanted a Playstation VR game personally because it made me want to hurl the minute I strapped it to my head, but if you have a strong stomach when it comes to motion sickness it could be an enjoyable time. Out of virtual reality, it was still an enjoyable take on the increasingly stale battle royale genre. It looks great, it has a fantastic combat system that is satisfying throughout your experience, and if you’re looking for a PSVR game to throw on every now and again for around an hour, Bow to Blood is perfect for that. It has impressed me enough to give it a Thumb Culture Silver Award so go and give it a go if you think it’s your thing.

Overall I enjoyed my experience although I found I needed to be in a very tactical frame of mind to take on World of Warships Legends as there is a lot to take on board and a lot of careful decisions to make when out on the water! Happy hunting! I award World of Warships Legends a Thumb Culture Gold award.

If you enjoy point and click games set in an alternate history, border lining dystopian. That has humour which makes you laugh but at the same time cry at an internet that looks and feels like the ’90s but with an attitude that wouldn’t feel out of place in modern times. Then you can’t go wrong with this game. I feel Hypnospace Outlaw earns itself a Silver Thumb.

Mechstermination Force took me around six hours to complete, which I feel was just not enough, I can go back and replay the fourteen levels to beat my previous scores, to gain extra medals for taking no damage during the battle or even add another controller so a friend can come to play with me and have some fun with local play, I feel they could have added a few other modes for it to give extra options of gameplay, maybe even online so you can play as the enemy rather than the hero would be awesome! I enjoyed this game so much and I’m excited to see what other games Hörberg Productions come up with! despite what I feel is a pretty short campaign I’m going to award the Mechstermination Force the Thumb Culture Gold Thumb!

6 / 10.0 - Dick Wilde 2
May 7, 2019

Dick Wilde 2 is a fun game with an arcade feel and a slightly nostalgic innocence about it which reminded me of a golden age of gaming but with a modern VR twist. I would love to score this game higher but unfortunately, it doesn’t have the depth to make it an instant classic and off the top of my head I can think of multiple on the rail VR shooters that are worlds apart from this. I award Dick Wilde 2 a Thumb Culture Silver Award.

8 / 10.0 - Close to the Sun
May 1, 2019

So all in all Storm In A Teacup have done a great job with Close To The Sun. Its story driven action, combined with puzzle solving and the unnerving fact that you can’t defend yourself, all gets packaged up into a nice neat bundle of joy to play through. Close To The Sun thoroughly deserves its Thumb Culture Gold Award

10 / 10.0 - Tropico 6
Apr 23, 2019

If you like constructer builder games, Tropico is perfect as you will soon rack up hundreds of funfilled hours before you even know it. Just trying to get a beautiful piece of paradise seems so far away but after a few hours, your dreams will become a reality and become the greatest El Presidente ever or, there will be a revolution and you will get overthrown. Either way, new or old to this genre and franchise, Tropico 6 is absolutely fantastic and well deserved the prestigious Thumb Culture Platinum Award and can’t wait to carry on with my island of paradise.

Throughout this review I feel like I’ve given Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid a pretty hard time, but It’s not the worst fighting game I’ve played in recent memory. For it’s $19.99USD price point on the PlayStation Store It has an okay value for what it contains. If they follow through with the plans for more characters on the roster and add some additional stages Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid can become a well-rounded fighter. I give Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid a Thumb Culture Bronze Award purely based on what is available at launch. It has the opportunity down the road to better itself, but for now, it’s a resounding meh.

8 / 10.0 - Snooker 19
Apr 23, 2019

Snooker 19 is definitely one of the best entries into the Snooker gaming genre and as its Lab42’s first entry I definitely look forward to seeing what they can do should they decide to make more (Practice makes Perfect after all). Sure, it has a few problems here and there, but who remembers back in the day with FIFA when you could run away from the Referee forever to avoid a Yellow Card! Back then I doubt anyone would have foreseen the game becoming what it is today. It would have been nice to have included the Legends tour here, but given that Stephen Hendry is working on another Snooker title I can certainly see why it wasn’t. Some of the other Legendary players as DLC would be a nice option? I’m basing my award decision on the game being for Snooker fans. As someone who enjoys both the challenge of playing in real life as well as watching the sport on TV (Looking forward to the World Championships this Saturday!) Snooker 19 deserves a Thumb Culture Gold Award and is a must for any and all Snooker gamers.

10 / 10.0 - Outward
Apr 15, 2019

Great combat, goblins, angry birds, common cold, and who knows what else being thrown at you, Outward is a great game and I see myself coming back to it well after this review comes out and trying to perfect the combat roll! It is a great game and except for a few graphics issues (which once again I am being picky) it is a solid game. I am happy to give Outward the Thumb Culture Platinum Award and look forward to seeing it’s future!

I personally think Earth Defense Force: Iron rain is pretty good, maybe not so much my style of gaming as I didn’t feel the “nag” of wanting to go back and play it more like I usually would with many other games, the storyline is nice but I also think if I were to play the previous games I would understand the game and enjoy it more! I am going to give this game the thumb culture silver award as it did open my eyes to a whole new genre of gameplay, I just didn’t have the ” I NEED TO PLAY NOW” feeling towards it.

10 / 10.0 - Vaporum
Apr 8, 2019

Vaporum has around 15 hours worth of gameplay to conquer and many secrets to discover. Will you solve the mystery of the tower and get out alive? or will you succumb to the monsters that lie in wait for you? Having played Dungeon Master when I was young lad along with gems such as Bloodwych, Eye of the Beholder, heck even the original Doom, I love grid-based dungeon crawlers. Playing Vaporum brought back the nostalgia and to have it in a gothic steampunk setting really made this game something special for me. Breaking from the shackles of PC and launching onto multiple platforms, Vaporum brings back the genre both immersively and beautifully. Vaporum earns the prestigious Thumb Culture Platinum Award!

6 / 10.0 - Shadowgate
Apr 7, 2019

Zojoi Studios have done an excellent job bringing Shadowgate up to date without adding or removing its original appeal. I would recommend this game to anyone looking to experience either something a little different or looking to recapture that magic from their childhood. My biggest concern for this release is the attention it will get from gamers. Being a remaster of an older point & click game, I fear that a lot of people will simply overlook it in favour of other titles (I sincerely hope not). Shadowgate fully deserves the Thumb Culture Silver Award and I hope to see more of this kind of game making its way onto modern consoles.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game but can see that after a good few games you could get fed up of it, I find it’s a nice game to break away from the usual games I’d play, something I can just pick up and spend what seems like five minutes but is actually an hour on! I feel this game may not be one everyone enjoys but it is fantastic if you do enjoy your dual-stick gaming, or even a fun game to play on the sofa with your family or friends – no blood, minimal violence (you’ve hurt more veg cooking than you will on here) so it’s fun for all ages! I feel it would be more enjoyable if you had options for online or even a second chance at life via bobs spin!

Lets not sugar coat it. The Division 2 is an excellent example of what a games company can do if they try. While I think Ubisoft have dropped in some really bad games over the last few years filled with bugs. This however for me is not one of them. Yes, I had one or two issues launching drones and turrets but since the last update I haven’t had any so I’m happy. Reviewing this game was a joy and I will carry on playing this game probably long after my friends have stopped but I don’t care. I love this game and accept it for what it is. A cover to cover shooter with an absolute mountain of activities and content.
