Slain will throw dumb A.I. and impossibly tricky situations at you throughout your time with it. It almost feels like any strategy goes out the window when you face enemy encounters and you're forced to frantically swipe at them in the hopes that you succeed, which isn't enjoyable in the slightest.
earth's Dawn is a poor man's Odin Sphere, but a decade too late. Crafting and upgrading might help elevate spirits throughout your playthrough, but the combat and execution prevents Earth's Dawn from being anything special.
If you're looking for an easy going simulation of what it is to be a farmer, or even if you're looking for a more immersive version of Farmville, then you'll definitely get a kick out of Farming Simulator 17. If you're not a fan of watching root veg slowly pop out of the ground, then you won't enjoy this unfortunately.
All in all, Ginger: Beyond The Crystal is a competent 3D platformer, bringing with it all the nostalgia you’d want for games of the time, whilst also bringing some of the gameplay quirks that are likely to frustrate. As a relatively cheap stop-gap between now and Yooka-Laylee, you could definitely do a lot worse.
If you’re into anime games as well as interactive novels, you’ll really get a kick out of Tokyo Twlight. If you’re looking for an action packed RPG, you’ll be sorely disappointed as there’s not much to do outside of the battles - which aren’t in your traditional RPG style.
If you’re the type of person who loves completely unreasonable difficulty, then you’ll want to give Toy Odyssey some money. Otherwise? Maybe find some other toys to play with.
The king is back, kind of, in a perfect remaster of Duke Nukem 3D. Any fans of the FPS genre and Duke need this game. With some nice extras and a few tweaks you'll be able to save all the babes in the world one more time.
Unfortunately, none of this is enough. HoPiKo is a great idea, badly let down by being suited to one very specific control scheme. In a wider sense, it's another release in a long line of mobile ports that just don't need to exist.
Mantis Burn Racing is a loving note to games like Micro Machines and R.C. Pro-Am. Although it captures the feeling well, it seems to be lacking that xfactor that made those title greats. Best played in small chunks, Mantis Burn Racing is an interesting title to lose a couple of hours too.
Gears of War 4 just falls short of hitting the peak of the series, but as a start to a new trilogy its pretty damn good.
When I first picked up Rogue Stormers I felt a sense of longing for games passed, just like Contra and Metal Slug, but the reality of Rogue Stormers brought those daydreams to a halt. It’s poor execution and rather clunky controls stopped me from truly investing myself and instead started to question should this type of game really make a return.
When the Hobbit films hit cinemas at 48fps instead of the standard 28fps people complained that it ruined the immersion. They could suddenly tell that characters were wearing makeup, the illusion was gone. That’s sort of the feeling I get from Syndrome.
I struggle to find much positive about Zenith, it's like a movie with a great script acted out by children on the worst stage possible.
If you're a fan of fast paced puzzle games then Castles is the game for you, but I wouldn't buy it if you're expecting a lengthy playtime.
Even though The Witness can become a bit of a slog at times with an obscene amount of puzzles - which border or repetitive - and the ability to easily lose your bearings, it's definitely one you should at least dip your mind into, if only for an hour.
I knew within five minutes that Firewatch was special. And, whilst the game itself isn't mechanically perfect, it didn't have to be. By the end of it, it had emotionally affected me in a way that perhaps no other game has.
Virginia is extremely well made and a sight for you to behold, a well-developed drama that should be experienced by all. There are issues I found with it, which detract from the experience, but outside of the controls I can see why they were used.
Aside from the initial impressions of Rive it has never set a foot wrong, and never needed to fight its way into my good books.
There are some really great ideas in ReCore and they feel realised, but it never really hits the point where they feel like they have been executed efficiently.
If you are someone who bathes in the next generation of gaming and is anticipating the next big release, then you won't find anything to whet your appetite here. It's about time we let history, be history.
