Pure Nintendo's Reviews

Apr 16, 2018

Beautifully designed and at times surprisingly profound, but doesn't have a whole lot in the way of challenge.

Super Rocket Shootout may not be a deep experience for those looking for a single-player distraction, but its action-packed multiplayer and jetpack-centered gameplay is well enough to keep your attention.

9 / 10.0 - Bombslinger
Apr 12, 2018

The unforgiving difficulty of Bombslinger can almost feel as punishing as a Dark Souls title at times and may turn some players off, but any veteran of that series and rogue-like genres will absolutely fall in love with Bombslinger. The grind-y arcade style of the gameplay combined with its nostalgic art-style, unique game design and personality make for a nice Indie gem. Each run felt fresh and the grind to customize my load-outs for future runs made this game an absolute blast to come back to, especially for quick bursts on the go.

7.5 / 10.0 - Tesla vs Lovecraft
Apr 10, 2018

Sci fi, gothic horror and general shooter fans alike will have a great time with Tesla vs Lovecraft, if not a hugely intellectual one.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a brilliant platformer that's fun, challenging, humorous, and looks great. If you haven't already checked this out, I highly recommend that you give it a go!

Each playthrough I seemed to get slightly better. The more I played the more engrossed I found myself in it. Questions like, can I get a little bit closer to that bullet next time? Is it really worth the boost in score and the charge of my weapons? Playing Danmaku Unlimited 3 was an absolute privilege. I certainly look forward to future titles.

I want to rate Urban Trial Playground a little higher, because I found it to be an addictive little distraction, but there just isn't a whole lot of content. And what is there is very poorly optimized, which can't be excused when they expect you to pay $20 for it. If the devs patch the game to fix the crashing and tighten up the physics, I'd be willing to give the game another look. But as it is now, I'm going to have to give it a just-below average score. If this game goes on sale for around $5, then I'd say to give it a try if physics-based biking games are your thing. Otherwise, stick to one of the many other more polished and full-featured bike stunt games out there.

6.5 / 10.0 - Castle of Heart
Apr 3, 2018

I can therefore recommend Castle of Heart only to those who are up for an extreme challenge or who have something to prove to their punk children (or punk parents). It's a beautiful game and the development is almost flawless, but the rewards don't come often enough to help you past the game's brutal difficulty.

Overall, Toki Tori is an exceptional and welcomed addition to the Nintendo Switch. There's tons of charm within its playful art style, colorful soundtrack, and its mix of puzzle solving and platforming is a perfect introduction for beginners and seasoned gamers alike.

9 / 10.0 - Shadow Bug
Apr 3, 2018

Shadow Bug is a fun, simple game that players can enjoy and take their time on. It hit's all the marks and does it's job well, not to mention how great it looks doing it. I highly recommend checking it out.

Bingo for Nintendo Switch is just a dull and lackluster party game offering with no real substance whatsoever.

Unscored - Clustertruck

Overall, Clustertruck is a fun, addictive game with plenty of content. It's also quite challenging and, although it won't suit everyone, there's enough to keep interested players busy.

6 / 10.0 - I, Zombie
Apr 2, 2018

The overall experience I had with I, Zombie was a lackluster one. The gameplay was great mechanically, but the art, sound, and challenge were lacking anything that made this experience a memorable one. There were only a couple stages where I felt a challenge, and those few puzzles didn't give me a sense of accomplishment that was strong enough to make me want to stick around.

7 / 10.0 - Dragon Sinker
Apr 2, 2018

A well-crafted RPG experience that trims a lot of the fat and focusses on its solid combat system. If reduced to $10 I would recommend it to anyone looking for a turn-based retro style RPG that won't take more than 10-15 hours of their time.

World Conqueror X takes turn-based strategy to a whole new level with its many modes and variety of stages. Leaning a little bit about World War II is an added bonus.

Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder is a strangely addictive experience. It's a simple game with a few minor issues, but is also a guilty pleasure that's fun to play.

6 / 10.0 - Dandara
Mar 26, 2018

In the end, I didn't enjoy my time with Dandara. The controls, while unique, just didn't work well for me–especially in combat. Dandara wants players to explore but the incentive just wasn't there. If you're looking for a Metroidvania with a unique control experience and a great art styles, Dandara might fit that bill. Otherwise, I'd pass on this otherwise beautiful game.

7 / 10.0 - Flinthook
Mar 23, 2018

While Flinthook was a swashbuckling good time, the poor level design and odd level system keep this title from being great. Despite the problems, this is a tight platformer with a lot of personality and fun mechanics.

Does Kirby Star Allies do anything radically new? No, not really. But it is a full-fledged console Kirby title, something many of us have sorely longed for. It's a good single player experience to be sure, but truly comes into its own as a multi-player title. Like most things, Kirby Star Allies is just plain better with friends.

This game is a hell of a lot of fun to play. It's not overly complicated, but it puts the sense of horror on the screen beautifully. It's easy to pick up and gets interesting very quickly. The way the story is told through features of the world is very creative. Those little touches absorb you into the world so completely that your heart rate rises every time those little white eyes loom out of the darkness.
