Action Arcade Wrestling is a beautiful and smooth game that's very attractively priced. Easy to pick up and play, it boasts a deep (but separate) creator's tool with plenty of community-created wrestlers to download. What it does, it does well. But it's missing features to make it a great game, specifically a career or federation mode. The framework is there, so hopefully, we will see that in the future.
I want to like Egglia. The writing and characters are fun, the village building aspect is an enjoyable twist, and the art is beautiful. Unfortunately, the game feels too stripped down to be enjoyable. Grinding and not knowing what level you need to challenge a boss is frustrating. I think this works as a mobile game where you might play in short bursts, but for a console game, it just feels off.
Super Onion Boy 2 is an enjoyable platformer. The fact that it's a blatant love letter to Mario's adventures works in its favor. It may not be hard, and it's over fairly quickly, but this budget title will provide a couple of hours of fun for genre fans.
I completely understand and appreciate their intent with this game, and I'm sure there are a decent bunch who will be swept up by this and adore it. For me, once you've played it once, there is no value in ever returning.
While there is fun to be had with Breakout Recharged, I really can't suggest you go out and buy it at lunch. At $10 the game is simply overpriced and not worth your time. When the game is finally on sale, that would be the best time to experience this version of Breakout. Otherwise there's a really good Atari Flashback Collection on Switch, which is a much better investment to enjoy these classic games.
Guild of Ascension combines the familiar elements of a good ol' dungeon crawl with a newfound freedom of actions based on real-world time. There isn't a lot of story-telling, and a little polish which would help the tutorial and camera controls. But you get to engage in the progression of accomplishments with earning XP, gaining loot, upgrading weapons, accessing additional features, and defeating the baddies to win the day.
Vagante is a moody RPG/platforming roguelike looks neat, if dark and gloomy, and plays well. It's not groundbreaking, but there's enough to keep genre fans busy with the copious amount of items to try out. It's a little on the tough side, but that's also the idea.
Although the storyline is a little dry, and the graphics could use some work, Pokémon: Legends of Arceus is an extremely entertaining title. It hooks you, inviting you to research every inch of the game. It's challenging, and the Pokémon are fun.
The Company Man is a competent platformer with beautifully hand-drawn artwork. The character designs are impressive. The boss battles are genuine, and each boss is unique in its design. However, the game suffers from some design flaws, mainly around the inability to aim projectiles and duck. This will require you to rethink how you may handle some of the more challenging bosses. In addition, the story isn't intriguing, and it's disappointing that the story didn't match the beauty of the game's art.
Kansei: The Second Turn HD is well presented, providing an interesting mystery to solve. Although I didn't find myself becoming overly attached to the characters, it provides an entertaining way to spend a few hours if you're into visual novels.
Kinduo is a cute, simple puzzle platformer with an enjoyable focus on teamwork and collaboration that blends into the sea of cute, simple puzzle platformers available on the Switch.
Reverie Knights Tactics is a fun tactical RPG with an interesting storyline and many mechanics to play around with. While the controls might take some getting used to, the overall gameplay is solid.
The Switch release of SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters Clash looks wonderful in its pixelated glory and they've added bonus features that make the game even more accessible. Features such as rewind, customizable displays, and even a manual truly create a well-rounded experience. It also helps that the Switch release is, quite frankly, really cheap. At $8, I highly recommend checking out this game, even if you're an extremely casual card fighting game player. The price is cheap enough and the game is so welcoming to newcomers that it could be a great stepping stone into the genre. For those who already love card fighting games, SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters Clash is a great pick up you'll enjoy immensely.
The Enigma Machine has a solid, page-turning plot. The way it embraces unfolding technology (and in a unique visual style) is something I'd like to see more of. But the marriage of story and visuals with the gameplay is mixed. Some successful puzzles are let down by in-between, squinting-at-the-screen, bits; this is probably one to skip if you're playing on a Switch Lite. But if you have affection for the early 32-bit era, give The Enigma Machine a shot. It's not much of a commitment in terms of funds or time.
If you have not played the first Windjammers game and are interested in the franchise, with all of the new additions to Windjammers 2, you can't go wrong with this one. However, if you've played the first Windjammers and are still having a great time with it, I would suggest waiting for a sale before purchasing this entry.
Heaven Dust 2 offers around 10 hours of isometric action/puzzler fun. It's meant as an homage to Resident Evil, but it stands up well on its own even if you've never played one of those games or the original Heaven Dust. Just be prepared for plenty of backtracking and puzzle confusion along the way.
Faircroft's Antiques: The Forbidden Crypt Collector's Edition delivers. This good-sized adventure (glitch-free) is an easy recommendation for those who enjoy games like this. And again, "Everybody's just so nice!"
Watermelon Blocks is built for simplicity. It's missing some key details that would make the overall experience feel more complete, but it's still decently enjoyable at a cheap price.
I Love Finding Cats! features multiple puzzle types and various objects to find – it's not just about cats! There's plenty to do in this relaxing puzzle experience, although some of the controls are a little clumsy.
Lacuna is a surprise gem. It's a game where your choices matter. It will require some deep thinking and quite a bit of reading. But that's what makes it an excellent detective game. If you're up for a challenge, you shouldn't pass up Lacuna.
