Call of the Sea is simply phenomenal: a touching story told by a charismatic protagonist, clever puzzles, flawless mechanics and art-worthy visuals and music. A must-play, and the new standard for adventure games.

Hotshot Racing gets the most important part right: responsive, fun handling. But its tracks aren't memorable and it lacks modes beyond regular races, so it won't hold your attention for long.

A golf game needs flawless physics, and Golf With Your Friends doesn't have them. It can be funny for a moment with friends, but you soon realize your time is better spent elsewhere.

SpellForce 3: Fallen God surprises with its lighting and particle effects, excellent voice acting and a story full of twists. Its customizable trolls become characters you'll remember with respect.

The Survivalists doesn't reinvent survival roguelikes, but it uses the genre's conventions efficiently, with clever monkey helpers, responsive controls and no frame drops even with four players.

Aquanox Deep Descent is bold, niche and innovative, with an interesting dystopian story and stunning underwater views. Movement takes getting used to, and repetitive missions can make the slow underwater pace tedious.

Much better graphics, Vergil as a playable character (with a sensational theme of his own) and new modes more than justify this edition. There's no upgrade path from last generation, so original owners may want to wait for a sale, but it's a great, content-packed experience.

A love letter to Bloodborne with an excellent combat system and bizarre, sometimes disturbing enemy design. It lacks the attention to detail that would make it a must-play, but FromSoftware and Lovecraft fans will be very satisfied.

Haven stands out with an original take on familiar genres, and the natural, well-built romance between its leads carries the whole game. It could have taken more risks, but it's fun and great for relaxing in local co-op with your player 2.

The Falconeer shines in its story, characters and visuals, an impressive feat for a game made by one person. But the lack of mission checkpoints and so-so flying make it an average experience: worth trying, with tempered expectations.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a slower-paced platformer than Astro's Playroom, but once you settle into its rhythm it's a really good game. Full voice acting and a simple story make it great for kids.

Star Renegades is phenomenal: a turn-based RPG with an excellent combat system, just the right difficulty and gorgeous pixel art. If you like the genre, it can keep you busy for dozens or even hundreds of hours.

Gears Tactics gets the most important thing right: combat. It lacks the strategic depth of XCOM, but it delivers exactly what it promises, Gears' unrestrained action as tactical combat, and does it very well.

Hammerting is fun, even if losing a run is frustrating and some mechanics still need refining. As a pastime, a colony sim with roguelike elements can be quite interesting.

For series fans it's probably the best Crash game and by far the one with the most content. Its difficulty is tough but fair, though newcomers may be better off starting with the remastered trilogy.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a pleasant surprise with gorgeous visuals and a big step forward in exploration, but frequent screen tearing and frame drops hold it back. Wait for a sale, when most of the problems should be patched.

Watch Dogs: Legion arrives with an ambitious, innovative idea in recruiting anyone in London, but a long list of technical problems, from collision and AI bugs to heavy pop-in, holds it back. It needed a few more months of fixes.

Want a Pokémon-like experience? Nexomon: Extinction is a great pick: simpler, but fun, full of heart and humor that never takes itself seriously, with constant updates making it better.

Kingdoms of Amalur is one of the best western RPGs of the last decade, and the game itself deserves an 8. In its current state, though, technical problems make it hard to recommend: wait for the fixes.

Good remakes bring back a game the way you remember it, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 does that perfectly, with every original song included. Half a point off for online problems, and nothing else to complain about. Highly recommended.
