Teardown is an incredible heist simulator built in a very detailed voxel world that would put any other game like it to shame. With the nearly endless options to lower or raise the difficulty, Sandbox and Creative Modes, tons of tools to unlock and choose from, and the ability to mod the game, Teardown is definitely a game that can appeal to any type of gamer regardless of their skill level. Going on heists or just coming for rampant destruction, there’s always a good time to be had.
I would go as far as to say that this is not a game but a masterpiece: meant to be observed and appreciated rather than played with. I did not want to put it down or look away and when it ended, I longed for more of the story. Even going about Mimi’s daily life with her Grandma, however insignificant it may seem in the grand scheme of things, filled me with a pleasant warmth. Umanimation and Un je ne sais quoi should be incredibly proud of the work they have produced, and I look forward to seeing what they come out with next.
It certainly feels like the type of game built for people who love YouTubers that play horror games, as it is easily accessible and not a very difficult game to get through. It is a game built to get a reaction from the audience and not much else. Layers of Fear (2023) just doesn’t seem to scratch that itch that many will be looking for when searching for a game to play. It does do many things right in the sense that it does feel like a scary game, but it certainly isn’t for everybody.
Nocturnal is a brilliantly executed game with an amazing story, if you can find it in the notes. For those who don’t have the patience for it, this game might seem more like a drag, but it is well worth the effort if you want to know more about Ardeshir and what happened on Narhan. If you’re still not sold on it, then you might end up staying just for the music and amazing visuals, at the very least.
Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow is an interesting game with some good narrative elements if you are looking for them. If you are a fan of puzzle platformers then it is probably worth a go, the mechanics are not especially unique but there are some truly enjoyable moments in there. If you are not a fan of the genre, the game is probably not for you. It sticks firmly to its roots very rarely deviating from the model of solving the puzzle and moving to the next room.
The art direction of Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is something to be applauded for, and the animated cut scenes made me wish there was more. Although you can replay a chapter as long as you didn’t finish it, the fact that you cannot replay other scenarios upon first-time game completion is a real bummer. Some pacing issues here and there made me groan through winded parts, but most of the time, I was anticipating the next part of the story.
Diablo IV is a good APRG as a whole, and the late-game material will keep you coming back for more, and unlike previous Diablo games, it will attract players unfamiliar with the series. However, the quality and popularity of that season's content will determine the show's long-term viability. The core content of Diablo IV is good, and while I believe there's space for improvements and I wish Blizzard had taken some bigger strokes and tried some more original ideas, they still could have used some work. The game is a lot of fun if you're an ARPG fan, and its attention to detail will impress you.
Shame Legacy is unfortunately just that. A shame. It is a shame that a game with so much potential was only a two to three hour experience that was ultimately let down. The sound design created a lot of tension and the opening is very effective in demonstrating the potential for an amazing survival horror experience. While some of the game play is frustrating there is definitely the seeds of a great game hidden beneath.
Street Fighter 6 has been beefed up to seem like a true next-gen fighting experience with a robust training mode and its revived control mechanism that attracts a wide variety of players. Despite World Tour being a great addition to the game, it requires further enhancements in the coming days, while the implementation of Rollback Netcode guarantees consistent performance in every match. The Drive mechanism and the overall presentation are friendly enough for beginners and offer what veterans need to keep them interested in a new game.
World War Z: Aftermath DLC is a must-play if you’re a fan of anything zombie related, with the weapons and classes to choose from, you’ll likely end up coming back for another round of chaos in the undead infested lands before you. To top it all off, you even get to experience the chaos in several parts of the world combined with the stories of several groups of people. The only downside is that almost everything comes at a cost which can be a mood killer if you don’t know what to expect.
ghostpia is a beautiful experience, and an unfinished one with the potential for season two hovering in the distance, but considering the high price and amount of reading necessary, it is not something I can recommend to most people. For gamers who enjoy reading or art, it may be worth the investment: there is a lot of content, with each of the five chapters being split into two halves and the entire story is intriguing. However, if you do not find yourself able to focus on a book or get easily distracted, ghostpia is likely not for you.
In terms of time, it’s also worth noting that the game can take about twelve to sixteen hours to complete based on how you play it. Additionally, once more of the abilities and fast travel points have been unlocked, the traversal issues stop being a problem. This means that there’s really only one disappointing thing about this game once you get used to it: it eventually comes to an end. However, it's got some great endings. No spoilers though! So, check out DOOMBLADE!
If you’re looking for challenging strategy gameplay, an intensely rich story, and a world that’ll just keep you coming back for more, Miasma Chronicles is definitely the right pick. It’s incredibly difficult to put down because it’ll keep you wanting to know what happens next. Even the side-quests are interesting and reveal so much more as to what happened in the world around you.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum had nearly endless potential to be great but it instead became the prime example of why beta testing a game before release is important. With issues like stuttering or momentary lag spikes all pointing to a severe lack of optimization, this game was doomed to be a flop from the start. The only hope for this game now is not just a quick patch but a massive overhaul to fix its biggest issues.
Friends vs Friends has a good foundation and concepts that could make for a quirky shooter. But it needs many further patches that change combat balance, progression, and an introduction of new features and modes. Currently, this feels like an Early Access game, which needs additional work. Those with three or more friends who are interested should consider purchasing multiple copies or hold off on Friends vs Friends entirely.
The team behind Planet of Lana, Wishfully, should really be proud. The game is truly a fun experience, and it is always nice to see smaller teams pull off something that looks this nice. It uses art to tell a story, and while it isn’t an Earth-breaking type of story, it is fun. If anything the game feels like it was a passionate project instead of something specifically targeted towards an audience. It is a reminder of what video games should be, those unique experiences that hold the player through until the end, instead of the more common triple-A experiences. Planet of Lana will be something to remember going forward, and hopefully, more game development teams will look at Planet of Lana and change things up a bit going forward.
Liberté is an astonishing game with a beautifully crafted world to explore and an intensely rich story. The use of deckbuilding actually takes this game over the top with how it’s structured because it gives you more freedom to play and adapt your current run to what you need. Aside from the bug with aiming at elevated enemies, the game has you coming back for more with each run, bringing you closer to resolving the conflict in Paris.
V Rising and its latest major expansion, Secrets of Gloomrot might become the next major hit with its unique survival and building mechanics, but also the combat system. The Gloomrot area, in particular, is a shocking change of pace and scenery while bringing a whole new set of challenges to face off against. However, it also brought in a lot more for the vampires who like to stay at the castle and decorate.
Warhammer 40.000: Boltgun is an exquisite boomer-shooter to play. Everything from music to graphics and gameplay screams quality and it is totally worth the $20 price tag. Developers Autorch did a solid job on Boltgun, and we can praise them for adding much care and love into making such a great shooter. We highly suggest you pick up Warhammer 40k: Boltgun if you are itching for an old-style FPS.
