It Came From Space And Ate Our Brains is an authentic, old school, twin stick shooter that doesn't value story but takes action. Despite smaller tasks such as destroying a barrier or activating switches, the gameplay remains somewhat monotonous, which is reinforced by the lack of diversity of opponents. The level of difficulty alone is quite moderate, but with three friends the game becomes much more fun. But it will take some time until you get through the six levels of the campaign and if this gets too boring you can look for an additional challenge in survival mode. So the game is a nice entertainment for in between, with which you can quickly let the pig out in a convivial round.

6 / 10.0 - GODS Remastered
Dec 18, 2018

Once you have overcome the first gagging in the face of the new graphics, GODS turns out to be a playable, early castleroid. Yes, the gameplay takes some getting used to and the "riddles" are in truth not puzzles and the 16-bit graphics are also not a real feast for the eyes. But if you let it go, Gods is just as demanding and motivating these days. The biggest letdown is likely to be the current price.

6.7 / 10.0 - Energy Cycle Edge

Energy Cycle Edge continues the gameplay of the first game and surprises with its now three-dimensional puzzles.

The Alliance Alive is a decent RPG for in between, but on current systems you have so much better options that there is really no reason to invest time in this remaster. Although it looks much nicer than it did on the 3DS, its origin cannot be denied. The forgotten characters and the character development system, which takes getting used to, will also appeal to few. If you have played through the hits completely, you could have a look, everyone else would rather satisfy their RPG hunger with better alternatives.

7.1 / 10.0 - Valfaris
Feb 19, 2020

Slain was nice, but not mature in my opinion. A graphic display that rode on the retro wave. However, the makers have taken the criticism to heart. The big hit is not VALFARIS. With Axiom Verge, Blazing Chrome, Gunlord & Co. there is also a lot of strong competition. Nevertheless, accompanied by metal rhythms, it is fun to chop up opponents. There is still frustration, but unlike Slain you have the feeling that you have failed yourself. I can recommend the title to fans of the genre. Everyone else prefers to play rehearsal first.

With Monster Energy Supercross 3, a number of innovations have been promised that are also present, but basically do not necessarily require an update from Part 2. Although you have a fun alternative to your career with the expanded training area, which can now also be used by four people, the remaining innovations are rather limited. Yes, you can now generate female drivers and yes, you now have dedicated servers for multiplayer, but still it remains the same racing calendar as in the second part. Therefore, players have to decide for themselves whether they want to upgrade or not. The gameplay is as always fun and fans will surely get their money's worth with an accurate implementation of motocross sport. So it's up to you how you choose.

7.6 / 10.0 - WRC 8
Jan 1, 2020

WRC 8 is a surprisingly good representative of its series. It is a good thing that Kylotonn has listened to his community and made improvements in many areas, because it really created a well-balanced rally racing game that should satisfy both arcade and simulation fans. The varied career with the challenges and the extreme weather conditions make you happy, the innovations such as the dynamic weather during the races and the skills tree also help to diversify. The improved driving physics also give the title more driving pleasure, as you can finally feel and weigh the different surfaces even with a controller. So if you can get something out of sport, you should definitely grab it, because it is easily the best part of the series so far.

7.6 / 10.0 - V-Rally 4
Oct 18, 2018

Kylotonn still didn't deliver a DiRt Rally Killer, however, it is a consistent development from the experience of the recent WRC parts. Although there are some things that take some getting used to, such as the oversensitivity of the controls and the gruesome soundtrack, the substance is very motivating and well-implemented. The various event types bring the necessary variety in the gameplay and thus provide the necessary long-term motivation. Also, the online modes make fun to compete in the races asynchronously against other players. In any case, V-Rally 4 is a successful continuation of the V-Rally series.

7.7 / 10.0 - Northgard
Jan 16, 2020

With Northgard, Shiro Games has already proven on PC that they have created a fun and long-term, entertaining strategy game with the Vikings from the far north. The port to the switch was also successful, although a few minor flaws cloud the overall impression. In particular, I found the small font size exhausting in the long run, hopefully an adjustment of the size will be patched here, or at least a setting in which you can set it yourself. In terms of gameplay itself, there is little else to complain about, so that genre fans can look forward to a successful representative of the development strategy.

As a longtime fan of this genre, I'm always happy when new or old titles find their way to the West. So also with Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha, where I already own games like Strikers 1945, Strikers 1945 II for Playstation 2. In principle, the collection is well developed and offers corresponding options where everyone who can start with the genre will have fun. But the lack of an online ranking for high scores and other goodies such as background information about the different titles or a sound test would have been a must.

7.8 / 10.0 - Grid
Jan 28, 2020

I have to say, I was surprised that GRID is so straightforward. After GRID Autosport, I expected a game that was more simulation-intensive, but GRID is the opposite. It is really fun to heat with the different vehicle types over the great designed courses. Sure, the route selection is clear and the fleet cannot compete with some competition, but GRID is also a game that is fun and does not necessarily kill you with an almost infinite number of races. For a successor, however, I hope to expand the Nemesis system because it has potential that will become more. Otherwise, GRID is aimed at all drivers who finally want an entertaining racing game again.

7.8 / 10.0 - AO Tennis 2
Feb 16, 2020

For me, AO Tennis 2 is equipped with some useful innovations that at least increase long-term motivation. In terms of gameplay, not much has changed from the previous part, but this was not necessary either. Rather, you worked on the scope and everything around it, so you are now working on your professional tennis player in a fun career mode and getting better and better. Unfortunately, the visual presentation is still the biggest weak point of the game, but you can get over it because of the gameplay. If you are looking for a good tennis game, AO Tennis 2 is definitely the right place. If you already own the first part, you should definitely consider buying it because of your extended career. If you only want to play matches, then the first part is probably enough. The upgrade was definitely worth it for me.

7.8 / 10.0 - Far Cry: New Dawn
Mar 3, 2019

Describing Far Cry New Dawn as a successor would be too high. Story, gameplay and innovations can reach the level of an add-on. People who have no problem with that will have fun here as well.

Nairi: Tower of Shirin is a wonderful graphic adventure that entertained me very well. The story always remains interesting and with the intuitive gameplay based on touchscreen or Joycon, everyone can enter the oriental game world. In addition to the charming characters scores the loving look and the atmospheric background music. The puzzles vary a bit in their level of difficulty, but by talking with other people and pondering is no mystery too difficult. A game for young and old and also suitable for the current cold season.

7.8 / 10.0 - Ride 3
Jan 24, 2019

In my opinion, Milestone RIDE 3 is close to creating the perfect motorcycle racing game. In addition to a variety of motorcycles with countless customization options, I also enjoyed the different tracks a lot. I especially like the open air tracks with their many details and is a good alternative to the official race tracks, which you already know from many other racing games. Both visually and the driving feeling could be compared to its predecessor, and so RIDE 3 offers the player a very authentic gaming experience that should entertain you for a long time.

7.8 / 10.0 - Monster Loves You
Nov 26, 2018

Monster Loves You is one of those games that are always a welcome surprise. Simple gameplay, which can be fun for a many hours of play. Like old adventure books of the 80s you can be both nasty and nice with your monster. Which way you go is completely up to you. Those who are not put off by the English language will get an entertaining title that also makes them happy as a couple or as a group. Thumbs up from me!

Narrative The Spectrum Retreat remains quite exciting and stands out from the standard "walking simulators", so that one is curious to see how the story goes on. Even the narrative offers some space for interpretation. Technically, the game is solid and does its job well, especially the soundtrack is very atmospheric and the speakers deliver a good performance. Fortunately, the English language version was kept here, but there are German subtitles. The Spectrum Retreat is for anyone who likes narrative games like Firewatch and can also start with puzzles.

Of course, as a loyal Nintendo fan, I own New Super Mario Bros. U and its DLC on the Wii U and was a bit disappointed that Nintendo did not come up with something new for the deluxe version. Although Toadette and thus Princess Peach are a nice bonus and make some jump passages a lot easier. And also the technical implementation is very well. But again porting a six-year-old Mario game (+ DLC) with marginal changes and offering it for the full price tag is a bit overstated in my opinion. Either more content or a lower price would have been desirable.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise shows how well SEGA's excellent Yakuza recipe can be adapted to other topics. Although I saw the anime as a teenager, I was never a fan of it. This game entertained me well with its proven build but 40 hours and brought me closer to this world than ever before. The small innovations and deviations, such as driving a car are nice distinctions to SEGA's underworld epic. Overall, although I prefer the Yakuza series clear, but especially for fans of the template, this game could, conversely, ensure that they finally find about Yakuza. I'm looking forward to more licenses, which are implemented with this typical gameplay!
