What Happened has some neat ideas for the way it handles mental health, but poor gameplay design and a narrative that overstays its welcome made me want to give up halfway through.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On knocks it out of the park in terms of content, presentation, and playability.
Death end re;Quest 2 nails a lot of things: narrative, aesthetics, soundtrack, and character growth are all fantastic. It falters in narrative delivery, visual design, and difficulty spikes. It’s a commendable gothic JRPG from Idea Factory that does interesting things even if not all of them work.
Drake Hollow is great fun with faster paced gameplay than most survival games.
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is the anime FIFA I never knew I wanted but now can’t live without.
Twin Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Adventure is not the most innovative game on the market. It follows the Arkanoid and Breakout formula pretty closely, but it does do enough new to make the concept feel somewhat fresh. And if you’ve never played a brick breaker before, this is a good entry point.
Activision knocks another remaster out of the park with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, an incredible re-release for the twentieth anniversary.
Overall, I just don’t think the value is there this year. It’s a great game, but wait for the price to drop or hold out for the next-gen version.
Overall, I expect more from a tennis game than what’s included in Tennis World Tour 2. It should have tight, smooth controls and an extensive roster of professional tennis players. Most importantly, it should be an enjoyable experience. You should be hooked to your television. This game just makes me want to put down the controller and hit the tennis court instead.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning might be worth it for those that never got around to the original. It's hard to recommend to returning players as a bare-bones remaster.
Hades wasn’t even close to being on my radar this year. However, it has managed to drag me into the depths of hell, and it will keep me here for the foreseeable future.
Necromunda: Underhive Wars has the makings of a good game. However, for every positive that made me want to keep playing there were always drawbacks waiting to push me away again.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time feels like the perfect continuation of the series – almost as if it never went on hiatus or took less-than-stellar detours after the PS1 era. As a longtime fan, I am glad that Activision has revived this beloved franchise.
Fight Crab is one of those games you have to see to believe. But after the charm wears off, you'll be wondering why you're still playing it.
Watch Dogs: Legion isn’t a bad game; it’s just not a great one either. I’m still intending to go back through and finish sweeping up the tech points that I’ve missed so far and recruiting the most random NPCs I can find, but it definitely feels like a step backward from Watch Dogs 2.
This is a safe pass for most gamers. The charm wears off fast, and the game is over before you know it.
Fans are better off playing the original on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube. The remake is barely playable in its current state.
In summary, Speed 3 controls poorly, the frame rate is awful, the AI is dumb, there are barely any tracks, it’s ugly, and the game crashes. Other than that, it’s great!
Assassin's Creed Valhalla builds upon what made Odyssey and Origins great, and it removes a good amount of terrible side quests.
Despite not reaching the highs of its predecessor, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is still an engaging experience that will have you repeating “one more round” well into the early morning.
