Metro GameCentral's Reviews

Jul 26, 2021

This is a simulation, and very much not a game, but it's also the most graphically impressive console experience ever seen and one of the best adverts for Xbox Game Pass so far.

So far Shadowlands does not disappoint, with the question of which of the four covenants to soul-bind to being a particularly tricky one, as you get to grips with the endgame content of world quests and dailies. Shadowlands is reminiscent of aspects from earlier expansions, such as Wrath Of The Lich King (even including the grind), but it has a style all of its own and a good sense of momentum that, so far at least, makes it great fun to play.

Since it’s not malicious we’re not minded to mark the game down just for being difficult, especially as the euphoria when you do get things right – especially a long chain of parkour moves that ends in a successful kill – is so wonderfully rewarding. It may be lower budget but Ghostrunner is a better game than Mirror’s Edge ever was, so if you’re frustrated at a certain other cyberpunk game’s delay then you should really consider this alternative – even if you might end up getting frustrated with it for a different reason.

A thoroughly enjoyable and surprisingly engrossing mix of VR, handicraft, and edutainment.

Turf Wars makes good on continuing to flesh out Spider-Man’s story.

As such we'll only give it a review score once all three DLC episodes, referred to in their entirety as The City The Never Sleeps, are out. The Heist is by no means essential but it marks a decent start to what could be another intriguing Spider-Man story. However, it's already clear that these post-launch adventures will only extend, not enhance, your overall experience with the original game.

It's a shame this is a greatest hits compilation and not a sequel but seeing the full madness of the series in one game is a wonderful journey of imagination and surreal humour.

The potential seems limitless and while Labo may not be a video game – and in that sense will provide little relief to Switch owners looking for something new to play – it could well be the next big thing. For big kids as well as little ones.

We strongly recommend both series to anyone that enjoys slow-burning interactive storytelling. We just warn you that, emotionally speaking, it's going to be a rough ride – for you and the characters.

Since it is free, and only 20 minutes long, it’s pointless to give the X-Wing VR Mission a formal review score. But if we did so just for technical excellence, Star Wars wish fulfilment, and the potential it suggests for the future, it’d be a solid 10/10.

Unscored - MultiVersus
Jul 26, 2022

MultiVersus has some shortcomings; stages feel uninspired and the controls don’t feel quite as tactile or satisfying compared to Nintendo’s fighting king, but this is an impressive foundation for what could become a genuine competitor.

Broken beyond belief but also a fundamentally bad idea for a video game, with inanely shallow and repetitive gameplay - Gollum is not only the worst mainstream game of the year but of the last two generations.

A staggeringly inept attempt to clone Super Smash Bros. and populate it with indie characters, whose only achievement is to make you appreciate the real thing even more.

Disgracing the name of Alone In The Dark is just one of the many crimes committed in this hatefully frustrating, and patently unfinished, survival horror.

Possibly the worst Sonic the Hedgehog game ever made, which considering some of his previous lows is one of the harshest insults in gaming.

The best visual representation of Hellboy outside of the comic books, but an absolutely terrible video game, whose shallowness and lack of variety is matched only by its constant repetition.

Not only the worst game Platinum has ever made but one of the worst live service titles of any kind, with an especially disgusting attitude towards microtransactions.

A hugely disappointing mess of a game that magnifies all of SWERY's worst tendencies and fails to compensate in terms of the unengaging characters and script.

A shameful launch of a barely playable, graphically embarrassing game that shames the memory of PES and may have killed the new franchise before it's even begun.

Another deeply disappointing Fast & Furious game that's all the more upsetting because of the obvious talent it wastes in terms of both developer and cast.
