10 / 10.0 - Hollow Knight
Jun 22, 2019

When it comes to putting a score to this dark beauty of a game, I find Hollow Knight to be as close to perfection as some of the greatest games of all time, standing tall upon the shoulders of genre-defining titles, tall enough to leave its own legacy.

Standing tall as a bearer of the indie game banner, Shovel Knight is one of the best games of this generation with immense value for players.

10 / 10.0 - DUSK
Jan 13, 2022

Because of games like DUSK, we’ve gotten officially sanctioned expansions to 90s PC classics, enhanced ports with features like ray-tracing, a slew of brilliant content creators, enthusiast magazine E1M1, and a seemingly endless list of games that I’m excited to play... Having one of my favorites of this movement on the go as a Switch game is surreal.

9.4 / 10.0 - DOOM Eternal
Mar 30, 2020

As it stands, Doom Eternal is a hallmark in the first-person shooter genre that effectively adds complexity and polish to the stellar groundwork set by the previous entry. It will be hard to top the achievements of Doom Eternal.

9.4 / 10.0 - Dead Cells
Aug 28, 2020

Even years after the initial release, even after games are starting to cite Dead Cells as their main inspiration, this game is surprisingly good.

Give it the 80 hours it takes to finish it or the 300 hours for the entire series. It earns every second of your time.

9.4 / 10.0 - Bayonetta 3
Nov 7, 2022

Bayonetta 3 is yet another brilliant entry in the series that recaptures the magic of its predecessors while charting new ground for the series’ future. Everything you could want from a sequel is here in spades. If you’re a fan of Bayonetta or just action games in general, a stylish feast awaits.

9.2 / 10.0 - Monster Hunter Rise
May 28, 2021

It’s no surprise that I am absolutely in love with Monster Hunter Rise. This game takes a lot of lessons learned in Monster Hunter World and brings that into a more traditional Monster Hunter presentation with game-unique mechanics to explore. It’s a phenomenal entry to the franchise and a technical marvel on the Nintendo Switch platform.

Shredder’s Revenge is an absolute blast to play and I can easily see myself returning to it as often if not more often than Turtles in Time.

The Last of Us Part II is a technical marvel of game design whose achievements can be completely overshadowed by a player’s reception of its story. While I sit comfortably in the camp of those who thoroughly enjoyed (if that is the right word as the story is often deliberately uncomfortable) the direction taken by Neil Druckmann and his team at Naughty Dog, I can see how people can walk away having had a completely different experience.

It’s surprising that even as an adult Kirby still brings me happiness. There’s something special about games that offer so much joy to the world and I really hope that Kirby as a character continues to do so for many, many years. If there is a follow-up to Forgotten Land, I hope that this isometric style is further explored.

All in all, it’s no surprise that Shantae and the Seven Sirens is a solid entry to the platforming franchise. Way Forward is one the most consistent development teams I’ve run into in the past decade or so and it seems like everything they touch I enjoy.
