IGN Korea's Reviews

It's certainly going to be a long and tricky climb of proficiency to be able to play mind-games with a human opponent, the combo system has been simplified and has enough single player content to allow new comers to the fighting game genre to enjoy this title. The tutorial actually teaches the basic fundamentals of a 2D fighting game and some insights on what the opponents may think and react to your certain actions. It is a good entry level fighting game which will also help you transition into understanding and playing other fighting game titles.

60 / 100 - Persona 5 Royal
Mar 4, 2020

It’s really difficult to find a game that has the best combat system, pool of characters, story plot, visuals and audio all in the right balance. This turn based JRPG is one of the textbooks of its own genre. But we are reviewing the expansion pack here, which happens to be the same full price as its original. This clearly is the only ‘thumbs down’ of this review.

60 / 100 - Overpass
Mar 6, 2020

The developers of Overpass have put in massive efforts to make the game's value as high as a Triple-A title. Unfortunately, the expectations were way too high and it didn't really fulfill the satisfactory level of implementations. There's definitely a demands for games that require you to put in endless effort and time into, but some of the game's achievements do not really justify the time you would invest into, nor provide further encouragement to continue on. At least this game is another gem in its genre due to its rarity between other similar titles. It serves as a good influence for any follow up games that are planned to be released in the 'racing game' genre family.

Among many great metrovania-like titles, Ori and the Will of the Wisps has fulfilled all the expectations what may go beyond the current trends from other similar titles. The most up-to-date style of gameplay, visuals, soundtrack, countless amount of collectibles and exploration routes are all ready to be unveiled. It has all the positive aspects from many metrovania-like titles but nothing that stands out as its own unique mechanics. Despite the lack of something new, its atmosphere and experience is a great new addition to be added to the genre.

The game has an innteresting mix of genres which involves aqua motorsports and shooting action. Kandagawa Jet Girls tries to push this unbalanced mixture all while allowing the gamers to fully customize their characters and their 'Jets' till their hearts desire. Variety of different modes somewhat allows this overwhelming experiment into a bucket of creative ideas, which at least provides some much needed gameplay hours.

70 / 100 - Bleeding Edge
Mar 24, 2020

Bleeding Edge has the typical multiplayer fun that's built-in by default. Wide range of playable characters allow the gamers to spend plenty of time in theory-crafting their strategies. On the other hand, the depth of the lore doesn't really attach those characters to the back story as much. While the game relies on gathering with other players to battle, it's also the only content worth mentioning as many of the other aspects lack in standing out.

The most affordable fighting game on the Nintendo Switch, yet it only provides typical modes to play against the AI and no online multiplayer mode in sight, Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe fails to deliver the value for the fighting game fans to even think about purchasing this game. Surprisingly, the battle mechanics are very polished and learning the combo mechanics can be a fun challenge for those who seek complex and accurate executions required in flashy combos. But in the end, will that be satisfying enough?

'One step from Eden' delivers fast paced action with various spells and artifacts which could be customized into a personal deck of arsenal. The customization experience is a fresh turn of its genre but it won't be easy to absorb all the multiple aspects of the situations given to the player. Once you're adapted to the intended play style, continous challenges await to provide consistent fun and activities.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake has made its revival for its hardcore fans. We may not get to experience the same hype when the original was released, but definitely carries the volume to provide another run down the emotional hype train. While it could be worth a permanent spot in your Nintendo Switch, if you weren't a loyal fan of this series, it could be questionable. Compared to modern games that come with unlockables, bonus content and easter eggs, there's only one cycle of play through with relatively short storyline.

The retail price may not justify the amount of gameplay time that will satisfy the experience to the fullest but Bubble Bobble 4 Friends features a series first, 4 player simultaneous multiplayer. The Bubble Bobble franchis has had a national impact in the heart of gamers who lived through the Korean arcade culture. Those gamers will welcome the bonus feature of the original first iteration of the franchise. Another great family fun game great for parties and gatherings.

It's a casual fishing game for those who were looking forward to a simulator like experience. Fishing gurus might be a little dissapointed for lack of realism but Fishing Star World Tour excels at the tug-o-war process between the player and the fishing line struggle. The production quality may lack a bit of tension but most of the visuals are straight forward with showing fishing points and other environments. The most fisherman-like experience would be when you hold the Joycon controller like a fishing rod.

Playing the 'Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' allows the player to play through its original story with some interactivity elements. It may require some of your memorization skills to get you going, but that's really about it. The popularity of this literature title is the key ingredent of the game, yet it's also could be a case of some negative factors, being that there is nothing 'new' to the plot. For those who aren't familiar with reading may not have the best intended experience.

Railway Empire is a rare title to be on the Nintendo Switch as it lacks in the construction and management simulatior genre. There are various elements that would keep the fans to keep playing and you can exprience the 100 years of industrial revolution throughout the evolution of railway expansion. One technical downside is if you're playing it in handheld mode, the tiny tooltip text would keep your eyes squinting if you're planning to play it for long hours.

70 / 100 - For the King
Apr 4, 2020

For the King has a decent single player content but its focus lies in the multiplayer elements. You will go through some tough defeats at first but as you progress, you'll be enjoying the creativity that can be expressed throughout the gameplay. Some of the battles cannot be avoided but you'll gain new experiences along the way. It will reward you the more you put time into the game with plenty of unlockables thoughout the journey.

The game is most suitable for children who want to experience their first interactive video game. The simplest of things like tilting the analog stick to move the character or pressing a button to jump will be a the most fascinating thing to excite the children who would be using a gaming controller for the first time. Unfortunately, the game being way too simplistic may deter the value of the title and lacks in much needed localization to show consideration among children around the globe.
