And as simple as the idea of retelling someone’s life story is, there’s an incredible depth to Before Your Eyes and a relatability to it. You aren’t Ben, but you may have similar memories to Ben that help connect you to him.
By itself, 3D World is a game absolutely crucial for any Super Mario fan, and having it on such an appealing platform as the Switch is hard evidence that the hardware does matter. With Bowser’s Fury and little updates like online play, it makes this the definitive way to play one of Nintendo’s biggest and best individual platformers.
As part of the collection we’ve seen several releases of now, there’s nothing surprising here in terms of bells and whistles. Code Mystics’ emulation wrapper is awesome as usual, with all the different frames, visual tweaking and multiplayer options you’ll find in all the other ones. Perhaps most importantly, Match of the Millennium appearing here means that we don’t have to worry about the Capcom licensing being a barrier.
Like a moth enchanted by a pretty flame, Little Nightmares 2 draws you in with its fiery passion but leaves you with sweaty palms and adrenaline running through your heart wandering “what just happened?” I still don’t know how to answer this question.
In the past, Bloober Team have created incredible psychological horror experiences with games like Layers of Fear, and The Medium feels like a natural progression in their development style.
If you want a game that will shake up your emotions in ways you didn’t know you needed your emotions shaken, Life Is Strange: True Colors is a must-play.
It’s wild, nonsensical, hilarious, fast and sometimes a little annoying. But I’m gonna keep coming back to it every time I remember I have it.
The exploration, the sound effects created with the narrator’s dialogue – everything about Ori and the Blind Forest is pure magic. This is a title that should not be slept on and I’m so upset with myself that I let it go undiscovered for so long. If you haven’t played it – or are looking to double-dip – the Nintendo Switch port is a dream come true. It’s fluid, it’s visually and audibly stunning, everything about this iteration is perfect and fully respects the original vision that Moon Studios had for Ori and the Blind Forest.
Shredder’s Revenge feels like it was made by people just like me, for whom Turtles in Time was a formative experience. It’s like a tidal wave of nostalgia crashing into technological advancements, new ideas, evolved talent, reverence and a dash of ironic self-deprecation.
Whether you’re anxious to swing back into Insomniac’s Spidey universe, dig into an absorbing, standalone superhero tale, or see what all those horses beneath the PlayStation 5’s hood are capable of, Miles Morales fits the bill like spandex.
I don’t even really like the combat that much relative to some other games. But because of all the synergies, because of the loop-driven storytelling, and because of the overwhelming quality of the music, visuals, acting, and more I’m still working my way to the true ending. At the end of the day I just want to know everything all these characters have to say.
You will find yourself devising new ways to turn this game into an AFK gold farmer, losing sleep over the most effective builds, and chasing every achievement like never before. You have been warned – the grind can and will consume you. You will like it. You will definitely get your money’s worth and then some more.
While CD Projekt Red has lost some credibility following the disastrous launch of CyberPunk 2077 two years ago, The Witcher 3’s free next-gen upgrade should go a long way in regaining gamers’ trust and helping to restore some of the lost faith in the developer’s name. One can only hope that other studios will begin to follow CD Projekt Red’s example for future remasters.
The truth is that Tango Gameworks just set the bar for 2023, and what was supposed to be a seemingly predictable year of releases has exploded into something nobody saw coming. Hi-Fi Rush is overflowing with personality, undeniable charm, and a style so unique, it’s almost impossible not to tap your feet along with it.
Metroid Prime’s iron-clad pedestal makes even more sense today in our post-Dread world, showing what it actually means for an outside party to treat a creative work with some serious reverence.
With a firm grip on GOTY, and a valid consideration for the best RPG of all time, Baldur's Gate 3 excels at every turn and enthralls with every twist.
Sea of Stars is a beautiful tale of friendship that tugs at your heartstrings and is impossible to complete without shedding a tear. If you're a fan of classic RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Golden Sun, you're in for a real treat here.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a game all about heart. A main character with a heart of gold, a story full of heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments, and a world that showcases the heartbeat of what makes the Like A Dragon franchise as special as it is.
Reload feels like a new game without deviating from the original. Almost every aspect has been improved, and it might be the new best point of entry for the series.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may just be the best video game of all time. Its fantastic story does wonders to make you care about each character while its phenomenal world is absolutely filled with endless activities to participate in when you need a break from the heartache. It's an improvement in every way imaginable, yet it never forgets the goofy charm that made the 1997 original a classic.
