Gameffine's Reviews
All in all, Kong: Survivor Instinct is a wild ride through a world where humanity is on the brink of extinction, and survival is all that matters. The blend of personal stakes, resource management, and the looming threat of giant Titans makes for an intense, immersive experience. It has its rough edges, sure, but the sheer scale of what’s happening around you and the way the game makes you feel like a small, fragile part of that world kept me hooked.
Rogue Water establishes itself to be a complete package of what modern rogue lite feels with its unique elements that make the ‘pirate’ aspect of the setting stand out. While the story plays safe with very generic OSTs, the game starts by being a big grindy. But if that’s something you can overlook, you’re in for sinking a lot of hours, given you’re not sinking your ship that is.
Kill Knight isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re up for a challenge, it’s an exhilarating experience that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Sure, it has its rough edges, and the repetition might wear on some players. But for those who crave intense, skill-based action with a gothic, retro flair, Kill Knight delivers in spades. It’s one of those games where, even after countless deaths, you’re always itching for just one more run. And when you finally conquer the abyss, the victory is all the sweeter for having fought tooth and nail to get there.
Halls of Torment is a love letter to fans of retro action RPGs and horde survival roguelites alike. It marries the best elements of both genres, creating a unique experience that feels fresh, exciting, and rewarding and one that offers hours of content at an incredibly accessible price point. Whether you’re looking for a quick 30-minute run or a deep dive into its dungeon-crawling depths, Halls of Torment will leave you coming back for more.
“Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss” delivers a beautifully crafted narrative that excels in storytelling and atmosphere. While it may not satisfy those in search of high-octane action, its emotional depth and enthralling world set it apart in its genre. It’s a must-try for enthusiasts of narrative-driven exploration games that focus on emotional storytelling. Yet, players should brace themselves for its measured pacing, repetitive gameplay elements, and potential frustration due to extensive backtracking and trial-and-error puzzles.
FC 25 is a game changer that may look the same on the top but will provide everyone with an interesting approach this time around. For all FUT players, the FC IQ will be a game-changer. For all casual players, the Rush mode will be a fresh venture. But overall, the graphics and experience still push on to be a truly next-gen football game that is authentic in and out. It's all the same, but better this time around.
God of War Ragnarok is a good sequel to a great game. While it doesn’t hit the same highs as its predecessor, when it gets going, it flies. The excellent PC port by Jetpack Interactive makes sure that you’ll be experiencing the best Ragnarok has to offer. This has been one hell of a ride and I hope to see where the winds take Kratos next.
Copycat stands out as a beautifully crafted narrative experience, notable for its emotional storytelling and enchanting presentation. Although the gameplay may not be the most intricate, its capacity to resonate emotionally with players renders it an unforgettable adventure.
Mexico 1921: A Deep Slumber shines in its ability to connect the past to the present, exploring how the events of 1921 shaped the Mexico we know today. Players will leave the game not just entertained but with a deeper understanding of Mexico’s rich and tumultuous history. Whether you’re a fan of narrative-driven games, historical settings, or visual storytelling, Mexico 1921 offers something truly unique.
Iron Meat's gorgeous visuals, solid gameplay mechanics, smooth controls, and a metal af soundtrack work in tandem to deliver an equally challenging and rewarding Shoot ’em Up that does way more than it needs to in order to stand out. Simply majestic.
The PS4 port of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is an impressive achievement. It succeeds in preserving most of the outstanding qualities of its PS5 version while occupying less than one-third of the storage size. Despite some technical hiccups, the ability to maintain a good frame rate and crisp imagery on 11-year-old hardware is quite an accomplishment.
Frostpunk 2 is shaping up to be an evolutionary leap for both the city-building and survival genres. By blending complex resource management, moral dilemmas, and factional politics within a frozen wasteland, 11 bit studios has created a game that is both emotionally gripping and mechanically deep.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 manages to live up to the legacy of its cult-classic predecessor. Casual players will have a great time with the game thanks to its balls-to-the-wall gameplay and supreme visuals. If you’re in it for the long haul, the technical issues and balancing (or the lack thereof) will be a point of contention. Hopefully, Saber will be improving and adding to the gameplay while the game is still in its prime.
The Plucky Squire is not just another platformer—it is a boundary-pushing adventure that redefines the genre by embracing creativity in every facet of its design. From the seamless transition between 2D and 3D worlds to the heartfelt narrative, it offers players an experience that is both fresh and nostalgic. With its imaginative narrative, breathtaking visuals, and inventive gameplay mechanics, The Plucky Squire is easily one of the standout games of 2024, taking players on a magical journey through dimensions they’ve never before experienced.
Caravan SandWitch is exactly what it markets itself to be — a stress-free, relaxing 10-hour romp through a beautiful wasteland filled with heartfelt stories and colorful characters. While its repetitive quest design, iffy PC performance, and technical issues prevent the game from achieving its full potential, Caravan SandWitch offers a pleasant experience that all demographics will be able to pick up and enjoy.
Squirrel with a Gun is a game that embraces its absurd premise and offers players a uniquely entertaining experience. It’s a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it encourages players to do the same. Whether you’re in it for the laughs, the chaos, or the sheer novelty of the concept, Squirrel with a Gun is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Just Crow Things delivers a whimsical and chaotic gaming experience, perfect for players seeking light-hearted, sandbox-style fun. Its charming art, humorous gameplay, and open-ended puzzle design make it a standout title in the casual adventure genre. While it may not cater to players looking for deep narrative or structured progression, its playful chaos and creativity provide endless entertainment for those who enjoy experimentation and humor in their games.
Akimbot is an excellent adventure platformer. Your play as a mercenary named EXE who is pretty much assigned a task to save the entire galaxy. A constant thrill of action with a combat approach of the 3D platformers in the PS2 era. You sure do want to give this a shot.
Astro Bot is one of the best platformer games to have come out on the PlayStation platform. It outshines in terms of creativity and with every corner in the game having a secret is just pure joy. A great flow, captivating graphics and the endless homage to the franchise characters makes the game truly legendary.
Concord is a definitely a next-gen game with its space bound designs and sharp effects, but the core gameplay itself lacks innovation. Hero shooter had its time in the gaming industry, and if it has to come back, it needs a new element which Concord lacks.
