If you know exactly what you’re getting into, Coromon is still a decently good time. It lacks depth, and it feels like it drags on too long for what it is, but if you’re just looking to play an incredibly pretty Pokemon game it is kind of hard to argue with Coromon’s price.
As much as I wanted to enjoy Remnant 2, I don’t think that a game should be that level of hassle just to get through the first experience it offers. It’s not a bad idea to make boss fights a little harder when more players involved, but your game has to be approachable by players or it will not make a wave among similar titles. Paired with the technical and extreme connectivity issues that we experienced during gameplay, it’s hard to recommend this game to anyone who wants to play without Google open for guides and server status checks.
My Friendly Neighborhood likely started with a brilliant idea of creating a Sesame Street-like horror game, but it feels as if that vision has been muddied. Through redundant puzzles, an overzealous attempt to be kid-friendly, and characters that are more annoying than frightening, this title is likely to be one of my bigger disappointments of the year. The idea is still worth checking out if you really like the concept or get the title on sale, but full price is a hard ask.
While Testament does some really fun stuff with puzzles, it doesn't really get interesting until you're several hours in. Whether it be the bland combat or seemingly endless lore the game wanted me to learn, I just never felt engaged by the world that Fairyship Games was trying to build around me. Testament is trying to do too much and falls short of an engaging experience because of that.
While God of Rock has a cast of unique characters and some amazing tracks to keep the rhythm to, the inability to see the actual fighting makes it hard to recommend as a whole product. That’s a shame because the concept is genuinely interesting and the fighting on the beat looks really cool in the few instances where you get to see it.
It feels like Waves of Steel wants to accomplish a lot with its wartime story and comprehensive shipbuilder. Unfortunately, the actual battle gameplay feels very simple and can be overcome pretty easily by just overclocking your ships. While the game seems to be getting positive reviews from players who love this genre, it’s unlikely to become a favorite among the general gaming audience.
Potion Permit is at best an okay game. From someone who was looking forward to this game for a while, it hurts to say, but it just doesn’t live up to what it’s selling. MassHive tries a lot of different things in this RPG slice-of-life game, but it doesn’t reach the mark on most of them. Players should wait on this title until it has received the necessary fixes and balancing changes, if then.
South Park: Snow Day! bravely departs from the series’ previous installments, offering something new and interesting as well as a continuation of a beloved story for fans. While the plot is interesting and full of that usual South Park charm, fans might not find too much of a reason to engage in the game’s intended replayability, with the game clocking in at a short but satisfying 4-5 hours.
Welcome to ParadiZe has a great core concept that is just shy of fully capitalizing on. I think it could have been a serious winner if the game had leaned more heavily into its base-building and crafting identity. As it stands, it is more of an okay ARPG title that, while definitely full of some interesting mechanics, isn’t the most exciting one on the market.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realm of Ruin has great ideas. It simply fumbles in the execution. While free from any bugs (at least in my time with the game) or major unforgivable flaws, it simply fails to hold your attention, offering the idea of cool mechanics without ever really delivering.
Persona 5 Tactica features all of the great styles and characters that fans of the Persona franchise have come to love, and even adds a few new ones. The new look works surprisingly well for the series, but returning fans might be disappointed with the underwhelming gameplay and the lack of the franchise’s famous social features and deep storytelling.
While some awkward controls and stiff animations keep this game from perfection, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is most definitely a title worth checking out. Fighting game fans and nostalgic Nickelodeon heads both have plenty to get out of this title, which makes great improvements over its successor. Plus any game with El Tigre in it is a good game in my book.
Campy and overbearing with callbacks and references, RoboCop: Rogue City can make even the most die-hard fan of the series roll their eyes a few times. Despite that and a criminally uninteresting villain, the game presents a truly unique take on the FPS shooter and is faithful (sometimes to a fault) to its source material. You will truly feel like RoboCop in this game.
The Lamplighters League is a solid, if a bit underwhelming XCOM-like that is digestible to newcomers to the genre, if not totally fulfilling to veterans. While the game features a strong setting and aesthetic, somewhat lackluster voice acting, poor dialogue writing, and tired genre-specific mechanics hold it back from its full potential. The game is far from a pass, however, and if the premise really excites you, you just might find it more enjoyable than I did.
Though a bit derivative and lacking in the narrative department, Moonstone Island provides unique gameplay for its genre and is something definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of farming-type games. With a bit of work and a lot more confidence, I believe the developers behind Moonstone Island could step away from their Stardew Valley inspirations and make a game that’s truly unique and addicting to play. While I can recommend the game at launch, I certainly hope the future has more in store than what we have at the moment.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Definitive Edition breathes new life into the aging game, elevating it to meet the standards of a modern audience. The gameplay, while intriguing, may be best enjoyed in shorter bursts or on the go rather than in extended playthroughs. The Definitive Edition successfully revitalizes the game, making it a worthwhile choice for both newcomers and fans of the original, offering a unique experience that can be enjoyed in convenient and manageable sessions.
LISA: Definitive Edition isn’t going to be for everyone. The simple and dated gameplay can be a bit of a chore at times to get through, and the extreme subject matter certainly won’t be palatable for everyone. However, LISA: Definitive Edition tells a wonderful, if painful, story, and until we have a LISA animated series LISA: Definitive Edition is definitely the best way to experience it.
If you appreciate unconventional and visually captivating experiences, Sludge Life 2 offers a distinctive journey through a world filled with peculiar characters and a vibrant urban landscape. However, those seeking a more narratively satisfying adventure should probably look elsewhere. Sludge Life 2 is a game that will appeal to a specific audience, but not all players will find it to be a lasting and fulfilling experience.
Nova Lands offers an interesting, if familiar, little journey with a fun enough gameplay loop. The game’s clean graphics focus on automation should provide a refreshing and fun experience for fans of titles like Factorio and Forager. While the title lacks in scope and replayability, the overall gameplay remains enjoyable, though it’s not lacking in room for improvement. With refinements to island variation, resource distribution, replayability, and other areas, Nova Lands has the potential to become a truly stellar gaming experience that keeps players coming back for more.
Vactics is an aesthetically pleasing and strategically challenging game. It’s visual beauty and immersive sound design draws players into a world that feels both elegant and engaging. The game’s strategic depth and roguelike design can offer countless hours of mental stimulation and satisfaction for those who can really get behind the gameplay. However, the chess inspirations and repetitive nature of the game may not appeal to players seeking more fast-paced or flashy experiences. Nevertheless, Vactics successfully carves its niche and provides a captivating journey for strategy aficionados willing to explore its unique blend of minimalism and strategic depth.
