Critic Reviews for Waves of Steel
Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.
Waves of Steel is a fun little indie game that has a simple, arcade campaign that does not last overall long across its 30+ missions. The best thing the game does is its ability to allow anyone to pick up and play, even if it means adjusting a few of the accessibility options to play it.
Waves of Steel is not a simulation and does not want to be one. This is an arcade experience through and through, designed to give gamers a lot of options and keep their adrenaline levels up at all times. The ship design element adds to the core loop, offering space for every player to think up and then try to implement their perfect approach for each mission. Make sure to use the unlock all option in the designer to see the kinds of ships that one can put together.
It feels like Waves of Steel wants to accomplish a lot with its wartime story and comprehensive shipbuilder. Unfortunately, the actual battle gameplay feels very simple and can be overcome pretty easily by just overclocking your ships. While the game seems to be getting positive reviews from players who love this genre, it’s unlikely to become a favorite among the general gaming audience.
