MKAU Gaming's Reviews

Trials of the Dragon King gave a great boost in difficulty that will challenge the end game players, but as a whole, it felt empty and seeing how the DLC can not be bought separately, it did feel like a bit of a letdown for the story driver players as they would’ve bought the season pass to find that the new content is locked behind a massive grind before they can even start it. I personally don’t mind a grind in games but the lack of new bosses and areas is a big letdown in my opinion, but hey, at least we got a summoner job, so there has been some hope from this for all players to enjoy.

8 / 10.0 - Bail Or Jail
Jul 29, 2022

Anyone chasing that game of TAG with a twist, Bail or Jail is for you. It’s a fun and quick game where there are countless areas of opportunity within the character’s abilities, and you can get pretty tricky using the natural cover offered by the buildings. It has that spooky vibe to the game but is not enough to scare anyone into submission.

4 / 10.0 - SENSEs: Midnight
Jul 31, 2022

While the environments do give off a retro eeriness to them, the sound design and general graphics are dated with awkward polygons and jarring instrumentals. The run animation in itself is comical not a feeling wanted from a survival horror title but here we are. The inspiration is clear but an over-reliance on nostalgic gameplay such as a fixed camera and tank controls doesn’t necessarily add to the fun factor. While the throwbacks to classic horror games start strong, it isn’t strong enough to survive among more modern mechanics. SENSEs: Midnight shows promise in theory, but in practice, it doesn’t stand up to its spiritual predecessors.

9 / 10.0 - Live A Live
Aug 1, 2022

Live A Live for Nintendo Switch is a testimony of game design that can withstand the test of time. Even though it may have taken 28 years to make the leap overseas in an official capacity, the game feels brand new and with so much to experience and the hidden gems that connects the dots to find, you will be won over time and time again.

I was excited about getting to play this title as it is my first time playing a Sword and Fairy game, and my excitement was justified. I have loved this game from start to finish – it’s my kind of game. The depth of lore, the engaging story, and the fun combat are all captivating. Everyone who loves JRPGs, or just RPGs in general, will enjoy this game.

9 / 10.0 - Digimon Survive
Aug 6, 2022

Combat is fun, but it is in the shadow of the story, so if you are looking for Digimon fighting action, this is not the title in the series you should be grabbing, but I personally love the making choices that impact the storyline. The characters are great to interact with, and while there are clearly some standout characters players will dislike, as the story progresses, players will easily get hooked on all how they develop.

8 / 10.0 - MultiVersus
Aug 9, 2022

What was first seen as another Smash Bros clone has become something unique and isn’t afraid to try something different, which has been received very positively. Will it dethrone the legendary Nintendo game as the premiere 2D platform fighter? Probably not, but it doesn’t need to. Instead, it stands out on its own, with its various iconic characters that date back almost a century to the exciting, intense, and fun fast-paced teamwork gameplay with smooth online and cross-platform experience. MultiVersus packs a punch and is here to stay.

10 / 10.0 - Cult of the Lamb
Aug 11, 2022

In the end, I can say ‘Cult of the Lamb’ is a funny, cute, and highly enjoyable game that makes me want to sell my soul to ‘The one who waits’. Its ability to be action-packed with a peppering of a building simulator gives players the best of both worlds. Now excuse me, while I figure out how to start my own cult.

8.5 / 10.0 - Rollerdrome
Aug 16, 2022

Rollerdrome is the love child of chaos and style, fast-paced action with a bright and vibrant comic book art style that never felt so good. Depending on how fast you adapt to the madness, you could be in the endgame building montage-worthy gameplay and competing for ultimate bragging rights within the first day. If you wanted to take it a bit slower, the list of challenges to revisit and the assist menu let you tackle the game at your own pace. Either way, Rollerdrome is an incredibly exciting experience and a fine addition to the PlayStation library.

9 / 10.0 - Madden NFL 23
Aug 20, 2022

For anyone new to the series or returning, Madden NFL 23 is based around the NFL (National Football League) where you might hear some of the bigger names in news like Tom Brady, Guy Whimper, and many more. Like the titles before it, anyone that is a sports game fanatic would be straight into this game with being able to pick your plays, both offensive & defensive, which decide the end factor of the game.

The main draw that will keep players invested and are most likely the reason most even picked up the game – collectible lewd images. Keeping with the modern pixel art style, there will be collectible images that progress the story as Sofiya discovers herself and offers herself in increasingly more provocative poses. It was innocent enough for the most part and offered tongue-in-cheek humour at the same time. The overall play time meant that you could burn through the game quickly, and if you put in a bit of exploration, you would be able to fill the galley for your viewing pleasure with ease.

8 / 10.0 - Ynglet
Aug 23, 2022

Ynglet is truly a unique game that needs to be played to experience its obscure but entrancing design, which players may not understand at first, but will find themselves drawn in and still playing long after questioning what it was to begin with. Ynglet will take you on a spiritual journey unlike anything else.

7 / 10.0 - Arcade Paradise
Aug 25, 2022

There is a big collection of arcade units to acquire in the game, ranging from games that look similar to GTA but play like PAC Man, to a Frogger-style game or something like Candy Crush. Playing the games is fun but you will need to stop quite frequently to tend to your main source of income – the washing and drying. Arcade Paradise is a working simulator after all. Sure, you could play a game the whole shift and not earn any money, but then progression is slowed right down as your only income is the coin hoppers from the arcade. Balancing gaming and working is the go-to action needed to keep a decent and steady income.

8.5 / 10.0 - Way of the Hunter
Aug 25, 2022

Graphically this game is stunning, the environment you’ll spend your time hunting in has been done with such high detail and makes it feel like you are there in that moment. Though, the details in the animal’s fur could have been fine-tuned a little to make them look a little more real. I was having issues with the rendering distance where the grass was just randomly appearing or the trees got their high detail when I got closer which took away from the experience a little.

The Ascent: Cyber Heist offered an exciting reason to step back into the Arcology, and even more reason to bring a few friends. With new ways to paint the walls red through melee options and challenging fights to be had, this short but sweet add-on extends what made The Ascent so satisfying to begin with.

7 / 10.0 - Thymesia
Aug 29, 2022

Thymesia is a solid souls-like game. The story may be a tad bit lacking at parts due to its short premise but it makes up for that with amazing combat and skill systems while throwing some truly enjoyable boss fights and enemies our way to clash with. I really do hope we see more things to come for Thymesia like DLC or at least a new game plus.

It’s amazing to see all these classic games ported to modern consoles. The Ninja Turtles, plus all their friends, and even the villains, have always had a special place in the hearts of fans around the world. These games played a huge part in not only the Turtles’ legacy but also video game history. Reliving these classics offline and online, and going through all their history in the Turtles Lair will create one shell of a trip down memory lane. Even if Konami has been a shell of its former self in recent years, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection’ is one of the best things they’ve ever done and gives the people what they want. Crypto’s arsenal of weapons and abilities make a return, from his trusty old Zap-O-Matic gun to his Psychokinesis ability allowing Crypto to throw objects and his enemies flying. This all feels even better with how tight and responsive the gunplay and combat feel in general. While the classic 3rd person-style combat is simple, it works, and using all the different weapons and abilities at your disposal can be a lot of fun.

I love the look of Gundams, so being able to see many highly detailed SD variants was an amazing moment for me. Having a large range of variant mobile suits, the details put into the designs are greatly appreciated, although the level designs can feel slightly empty. They feel very small to play in, but they range from canyons to cities and space stations. Playing in different environments is great, but given the size of the suits, I wish the play zone was a bit bigger with a few more enemies.
