Two Point Campus becomes my game of the year of 2022 so far and whilst there are still four months left to go, I can see it remaining there. The entire package oozes quality and I was looking so hard to find something to criticise and there was nothing that stood out whatsoever. The structure and progression of working through the 12 locations on offer will keep you going for a lengthy period of time with more DLC promised to be on the way.

With RTS titles on console in very short supply, Iron Harvest Complete Edition is a welcome addition. Sure, it doesn’t do much differently in the genre to similar titles. But when there is such little choice for casual gamers, you would be crazy not to jump at this one if you love this type of game.

Football Manager smashes it year after year. Consistently ticking off every box in the genre, always improving and excelling. If you’ve never played a game in the series and are a fan of football, then there is no better time to give this a go. With the game now present in the Xbox Game Pass library, there is no financial risk even if it isn’t for you.

Arcadegeddon provided me with a huge amount of fun. Whilst it can be casual, it also caters to hardcore shooter fans who want a real challenge. For the most part of the review I played solo and loved every second, but it is the perfect cooperative game and also brings competitive PVP into the mix.

For the price point, you’re getting a feast of content here with Train Valley Console Edition. With everything that was seemingly on offer with the PC version appearing here. Admittedly I was instantly frustrated with the clunky and difficult control scheme, but you do learn to adjust, just about.

Hell Let Loose is a dream for enthusiasts of hardcore first-person shooter titles with an almost forced squad-based element. Would I recommend this for solo players? Only if you’re willing to speak up to others online, make friends and work with others. This game is not made for lone wolves.

Spacelines From The Far Out takes inspiration from some of the best co-op games in the business and becomes its very own fun and frantic creation. I’d absolutely recommend grabbing your online friends, telling them to get this downloaded and to play it with you.

90% - Rustler
Jul 23, 2022

Rustler is by far the greatest indie I have played in 2021. It took my hand and brought me back to two decades ago. Whilst it is a totally different setting and era, it echoes all the happy memories I had with the GTA titles. Playing a game with those same top-down mechanics is still as enjoyable now as it was back then

Whilst As Dusk Falls can be done and dusted in 6-7 hours, it may come across as a bit short for some. But the content that is there oozes quality in visual presentation, marvellous voice acting and intense decision making. The fact they have made the game interactive with several players using different devices gives the game longevity with friends

If you’re looking for a hardcore shooter that relishes realism then you absolutely must buy Insurgency Sandstorm. For the price point, it is more than worth it for the amount of content on offer here with more on the way in 2022.

My Friend Peppa Pig is obviously aimed at children of a certain age. Whilst my son is quite advanced in his gaming ability at his age, he really enjoyed this despite it being a little too simplistic for him. This is an absolutely ideal stress-free experience for Peppa Pig fans and parents needn’t worry about it being the first introduction to gaming

Capcom Arcade Stadium took me right back to my early days as a gamer. It really brings back an appreciation of where gaming first started to excel. For us older players out there it is a chance to show our own children what we used to play. There are endless hours of exhilarating fun to be had here depending on your taste.

I always have mixed feelings about turn-based games because if they don’t hit right then they turn me off almost immediately. It’s only natural to compare every game in the genre to the greats such as XCOM and the Shadowrun Trilogy is almost within touching distance. If you’re looking for some turn-based goodness that isn’t overly complicated and complex with simplistic controls in a beautiful Cyberpunk setting, then this will be right up your street.

Rush Rally Origins actually stunned me with the overall package. I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy a rally game with a top-down perspective but I was genuinely hooked from the first second I played. With 48 different rally tracks to work through across time trials, competitions and races, it presents the opportunity for several runs to achieve the best scores and times possible.

For a game of such a low price point, I was staggered at how much fun I had with Ravenous Devils. Even after playing for around eight or so hours, I couldn’t help but think why they are charging so little for such a unique take on the genre. Fans of games like this will quickly become hooked on the rinse and repeat mechanics but increasingly utilising the upgrades to turn more profit and a successful business.

Injection π23 Ars Regia had me in two different mindsets throughout my time with it. One part of me was extremely impressed with how the atmosphere was presented with its petrifying, gloomy and grainy visuals and the fact only one person developed this experience. The other side of me was disappointed and frustrated with zero sense of direction.

Renzo Racer was not a great experience whatsoever. Whilst it has a large range of tracks and a nice variety of endearing animal drivers, the rest of the game is poorly designed. With dreadful vehicle handling, terrible mechanics and zero incentive to continue playing after an hour or two, I just can’t recommend this to anyone.

Remote Life was an adventure I absolutely adored from start to finish. To think a one-man team created this entire package is just insane and he should be absolutely proud of the end product. If you’re a side-scrolling shooter junkie then it is an absolute must-buy.

Matchpoint: Tennis Championships gets one key area of the game spot-on and that is the solid gameplay mechanics and how the game feels to play in the hands. I loved how much concentration I required to outdo my opponents to work for winning results. It’s clear to see that Torus Games were working with a limited budget and resources as there is quite a bit lacking here to make it a fully immersive sports title. Some work needs to be done on more options for character customisation, in-depth commentary, the lack of doubles and a shallow multiplayer package. The absence of a doubles mode is baffling and noticeable, the inclusion of this could have created longevity and replayability to bring friends into the mix.

Cricket 22 is a good entry into the genre. Would I say it has improved on the last instalment? Yes is the answer, but clearly, it hasn’t exceeded the 2019 version massively. The addition of more modes, licencing and online options does make it a much better game overall.
