Overall, I absolutely loved Mashina. Controls are easy and gameplay is straightforward, making it an excellent choice for a low-stakes game. Adapting the game to both keyboard and mouse introduced some issues, but for a two-man team this is an impressive milestone for version one.
While there may be a few negatives, Leenzee overall should be proud as Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a solid game especially for a debut game, it honestly feels better than most established triple A developer games on release, one complaint I have seen is bugs and while I have not encountered any at all this is likely due to the fact I am lucky or they have all have been fixed so in this case at least the developers also listen. This is one that can sit proudly along the more established soulslike games and definitely deserves your time.
My Friendly Neighborhood toes the line between horror and humour, in an epic survival quest that turns nostalgia into apprehension. I definitely recommend this game to those looking for a less serious adventure that still provides the gratification and entertainment of bigger titles. I will certainly be revisiting it in my spare time.
Nostalgia is a powerful toolset and Neverwinter Nights 2 somewhat makes use of it for all the wrong reasons. It many not be the shining example that Baldur's Gate shows but the nostalgic factor and clunkiness somewhat works in its favour for a strange trip down memory lane.
A mostly competent remake with some bewildering gameplay decisions concerning ‘Pro Skater 4’. A sometimes beautiful looking game that gives fun 2 minute blasts of classic arcade skating action. Modifiers to make the experience enjoyable for first time skaters and the hardened elite of yesteryear. A myriad of online park creations add theoretical replay-ability. Essentially it is a test of your nostalgia lens.
Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army combines a unique setting with a good mix of action and exploration thrown in. If you want something different from the Persona series without worrying about a timer and trying to cram as much activity into a day as possible then Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army could be the game you are looking for to take off the edge.
Overall I thoroughly have enjoyed my time with Nice Day for Fishing, as I have seen a few of the Skits already I understood what was going on but as some of them I weren't aware of I still found them funny and overall the game as a whole is charming and tongue-in-cheek.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a fresh take on the farming sim Rune Factory series providing players with a new and intuitive base building system whilst retaining farming, cooking and interacting with a new and varied cast of characters who all have their own charm which we've grown to love the series for. It has a battle system that is fair and engaging and the most in depth story to date making it feel in line with a more traditional JRPG.
A simplistic yet beautiful narrative game that purrs out such a strong message in life. CopyCat just simply has to be sat through, and I for one came out of it feeling far more appreciative than before.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is a solid entry in one of gaming’s longest running franchises. Featuring a stellar combat system with a focus on larger scale battles, the game is only let down by a forgettable story and an even more forgettable soundtrack, in place of the magic that Mick Gordon produced on its predecessors. If you’re after a bloody spectacle, with large, open battlefields with hordes of enemies to tear through, then you’re in for a good time with DOOM: The Dark Ages.
I enjoyed this history trip down a classic game makers library. The package is very clean and easy to navigate. The inclusion of online play makes it one of the most convenient ways to play with others that can’t get to the arcade with you. While not all were hits, in my opinion this package includes plenty of great games to keep you busy on a nostalgia trip. One of my major gripes is the omission of ‘River City Ransom’ & ‘Double Dragon’.
Death End re;Quest Code Z is another game added to Compile Hearts mixed catalogue of games and sits on the lower side in terms of quality, it's certainly not the worst and at least they tried something new with the gameplay mechanics but ultimately these lacked and made what should of made a good tension building game even better.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a safe remaster of the original Oblivion that does nothing new but gives it a new lease of life that it very much needed with a significant visual upgrade, including sharper textures, enhanced lighting and modern rendering using the Unreal 5 Engine.
Autopsy Simulator is the literal definition of a grotesque and unsettling mixed bag; whilst the level of detail and accuracy afforded to the autopsies is impressive, and it does manage to hold down a spooky atmosphere, it’s overall a bit too short and a bit too hand-holdy for most of the game. For fans of the simulation genre or shows like CSI, then it’s worth a look at, otherwise I’d wait for a sale before you begin dissecting this one.
Both Lunar Silver Star Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete do nothing to revolutionize the JRPG genre, but that's why both games work so well. If you want to play a JRPG that simply takes the classic formula and perfects it, Lunar is game that will do just that. There is no crafting system nor mini games and optional superbosses. Battles are simple traditional turn-based with no extra power house moves. Lunar Remastered Collection brings both these game to an age where games have certainly become more grandeur but if you love the classic and simple things in a JRPG then you can't go wrong.
If you like anime and castlevania style of games you can't go wrong with Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark, it does everything you would want it to, it has a charming story, cast of characters and gripping gameplay that is smooth and feels rewarding.
An anime visual novel with poker at parts. The visuals were nice but sometimes grossed me out, with AI generation in parts that I can’t get behind. A niche crossover of genres that will find a dedicated audience but sadly not myself.
Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition is a must have Switch game, not only have Monolith Soft added massive improvements to the core gameplay over the Wii U version, I am convinced some black magic is going on as I still wonder how they have managed to make a game look this good and play as smooth as it does on a console that other companies seem to struggle to get even close to the performance or graphical fidelity that Monolith Soft always seem to do.
Crocs simplistic story and gameplay felt very much like it's own thing especially back in 1997 among other games at the time but the remaster of this game makes a lot of the flaws more noticeable sadly. It still is very much a charming game in it's own right and it was nostalgic if anything to play again especially with the soundtrack that remained untouched. I still hope the team decide to do a Remaster of Croc 2 as I can see they are passionate to the fans and who knows we may see Croc 3 one day in all its glory.
With a lack of modes and features in both online/offline play, (just three modes if you include the tutorial) / marred by poor server issues, and some pretty basic fighting mechanics; It is hard to support a purchase for the full recommended retail price. All the flash and impressive presentation values soon wear off. Story mode has its highs and lows that hardcore fans will love due to its faithful implementation of the original comic tale. Bleach REBirth Of Souls will prove popular to hardcore fans who love the nostalgia factor, (whilst arguably just grateful for an actual Bleach video game release). I felt the game could and should offer much more. A lack of depth in modes and its basic gameplay mechanics leave me feeling what could have been had more time been pumped into this release. REBirth Of Souls is a rough diamond that sadly, probably didn't have the budget to match the ambition.
