5 / 10.0 - Gunscape
Jan 31, 2023

Gunscape looks and sounds just like the classic first person shooters Quake, Doom and Wolfenstein. The nostalgia is strong with this title, but unfortunately Gunscape is a title that we cannot recommend. There are much better options available where players can create their own levels. Making a level is very easy, but even the creators have a hard time showing how fun levels should look like. The need for a Nintendo Online subscription ensures that this is a game that will not be picked up by many people so quickly. Unfortunately, this is something that is very important in a title that is all about building a community that creates, shares and plays levels.

5 / 10.0 - Colossal Cave
Mar 7, 2023

Colossal Cave relies heavily on the nostalgia and brand awareness of the original. It is a game that is very difficult to play without this remake. Unfortunately, the transition to 3D makes the game less accessible and in many cases even more frustrating. Listing the lyrics will be a trip back to the past for fans of the original, but it quickly becomes very irritating, especially in the menu. A VR update is planned for this year, based on the PC VR version. But after the few hours with this game in "normal" 3D and the fact that the PC VR version solves few of the problems, this is a game I won't be playing in PS VR 2.

Kill It With Fire VR tries to make a full game out of a simple idea: crushing spiders. Unfortunately, after a few levels you'll find yourself losing interest due to the repetitive gameplay. The extra assignments are fun, but do not mean that you have to do the same thing several times. The mediocre graphics, physics and controls work against this game and the new PSVR2 hardware unfortunately cannot disguise this. This is a VR game that was fun as one of the first VR games, but now it's disappointing when you compare it to the newer VR titles on the market.

The controls in Paint the Town Red VR are intuitive and the most important settings are present, such as adjusting the height for seated players. The entire game is a very smooth experience on the PSVR2. A fun fact is that the music was composed by BAFTA award-winning Jeff Van Dyck. The game does not do anything innovative, but it does manage to offer a lot of content and possibilities to the player. The simple combat system and visual style will not be for everyone and the two tens of euros therefore feel quite pricey. But if you want to release your aggression for half an hour every now and then, this is the game for you!

6 / 10.0 - Life of Delta
Oct 25, 2023

The cool visual design can't stop Life of Delta from being a mediocre point and click adventure game. The interaction is very clumsy on the Playstation 5. Moving the cursor is normally too slow, but it is not precise enough for the many puzzles. The simple interactions and minimal choice of objects you have to use ensure that you don't have to think too long about the puzzles. The price of twenty euros is therefore on the high side and Life of Delta needs more than a nice presentation to make the purchase worthwhile.

6.2 / 10.0 - Taito Milestones 2
Sep 9, 2023

The biggest drawback is the price tag of fourteen euros. Ten games seems quite a lot at first, but they are still arcade games. These are games that are therefore often very difficult or very short. For this price you do not get the best experience, mainly due to the different resolutions and the fact that they are less suitable for handhelds. You will encounter a lot of black bars and they are games that have not been improved for the platform. It is a collection that is interesting if you are sure that there are several games that you would like to spend some more time on. Taito Milestones 2 is a collection that is technically well put together, bundles various genres and provides access to several classics for the enthusiast who knows them.

The Top Racer Collection is a neat collection of the first three Top Racer games and an addition of a new game. It preserves the original games quite well and includes a wonderful soundtrack. The new menus fit less with the style of the games, but the gameplay is still fun to pick up. The improvements are minimal, but with the addition of online multiplayer this makes the game more future-proof. The collection is two tens of euros and that feels quite pricey, but if you come across the game in a sale then I would definitely give this collection a chance.

6.5 / 10.0 - Raccoo Venture
Dec 22, 2023

The upbeat music, colorful levels, and cute characters can give players the wrong impression of what they're in for. The game contains a large number of areas, levels and items to collect and you will have to collect them all to unlock all the levels. Unfortunately there is a big but. The game quickly becomes frustratingly difficult and you regularly have to replay large parts of the levels to find all the collectibles. The game seems to focus on the target group that grew up with these Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 platformers. Raccoo Venture is really not child's play and that is a missed opportunity.

The expansion is therefore not the right start for a new player. As a new player, it is best to just start with the basic game. This is an expansion aimed at players who have completed the basic game completely. This way you can take all your characters with you and it feels less like you're getting a generic start. You understand how all the systems work and the main story of Tales of Arise is wonderfully epic. Beyond the Dawn has little added value, except to extend the playing time a little more.

6.6 / 10.0 - Akka Arrh
Mar 7, 2024

The game has been out for other platforms for a while, but gets a PSVR2 option for the Playstation 5 version and this makes a bigger difference than you might originally think. While the 2D version is a lot more difficult to understand and keep an overview, the PSVR2 option makes the game a lot clearer. You are in the middle of your tower and with the two layers you have a lot of depth in the different levels. It doesn't happen often, but this is a game that is really much better in VR. This is a game for Atari and Minter fans and players who are interested in the history of this game. It's great to discover old prototypes and make them accessible to many people. You will quickly notice why this game remained a prototype and did not reach the arcades in the eighties.

7 / 10.0 - Forspoken
Jan 26, 2023

Forspoken divides players. Some are disappointed others see the big plus. The game takes a lot of time to get going, but you can almost finish this game under 15 hours. But you can easily put in four times as many as you want. I see this as a plus. The player decides how much time he wants to put into it. You haven't combed every corner and taken on every side mission, but you've had a great journey. The game shows at various times what a PS5 title should look like. The highlights feel very cool and the game manages to successfully combine many elements.

7.2 / 10.0 - Haunted House
Oct 18, 2023

The Haunted House remake is a true successor to the 1982 original. This roguelite replaces large battles with sneaking and puzzling and this works wonderfully well. The rooms are randomly generated each time, making each attempt different and surprising. The game starts very challenging, but as you earn more upgrades you will get through the game a little easier. The art style is nice and technically the game is well put together.

Puzzle Bobble Everybubble is therefore a section that neatly ticks off all the options you would expect from a new Puzzle Bobble game. But the new additions make the game feel a lot harder and more rushed than before. The game contains tons of levels, but offers little extra around it to give you a nice goal to go through it all. With only two modes, you have little to choose from. It remains Puzzle Bobble and the formula is still entertaining after all these years, but it manages to surprise or innovate little.

7.2 / 10.0 - Park Beyond
Jun 22, 2023

Park Beyond is a good first attempt from the makers of Tropico. The base is very entertaining and you can find quite a lot of entertainment here. The eight missions give the player a nice full introduction to all elements and the game is certainly not easy. The game uses Unreal 4 and you can certainly see this. But the interface holds the game back considerably when it comes to building roller coasters, roads or complete buildings.

Tales of Kenzera gives the player access to a beautiful world with a colorful presentation inspired by African culture. The levels, battles and upgrades are well developed, but it all feels a bit minimal. For a player who plays few action platformers or metroidvania titles, this is a game that you can pick up without any prior knowledge. It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the controls feel less fluid at a certain point and I hope that this will be resolved in an update. The focus is on Zau's journey and the loss of an important person in your life. Unfortunately, the weight of this message is not reflected in the gameplay and that is a great loss.

Boti: Byteland Overclocked is a colorful 3D platformer that looks back to the platformers of the past. The levels are colorful, you jump and puzzle a lot and you can collect many objects. The robot Boti controls nicely and you can discover the levels with a beautiful soundtrack in the background. It is therefore a shame that the game fails, especially on a technical level. Your GPU is working overtime and various elements in the game just lack the finishing touch that jumping and fighting have. If these elements had been in order, we would really have had a highly recommended one here. In its current state, the game unfortunately remains average.

7.7 / 10.0 - Wartales
Apr 24, 2024

Although Wartales isn't perfect, the many small details that are slowly presented to the player make for a very enjoyable experience. You can play the game in many different ways and the game promotes a lot of experimentation. The game is simple in presentation, but it manages to add enough charm. In particular, the fact that each location looks different ensures that you will not get bored quickly. The new regions and the gameplay change little to the core of the game and the challenge lies mainly in exploring, balancing and expanding your group of mercenaries. Do I have enough food? Do I have enough food to feed everyone? Do I have enough resources and medicines to survive a surprise attack? This is a game where your loyal mercenaries and the journey are what matter most, not the final destination.

7.7 / 10.0 - Full Quiet
Aug 21, 2023

It's a huge technical achievement and graphically this is one of the better NES titles. The gameplay is solid, deep and very extensive. It's a game that you keep playing and that can certainly not be said about every NES title these days. For the NES owner, this is certainly an interesting game to actually get on cartridge.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is a complete package and a particularly good introduction to the soulslike genre. Unfortunately, the game feels a bit outdated here and there with the individual levels. Fortunately, the game plays well, the bosses look very cool and the game gives the player a lot of extra options to defeat the challenging bosses. You will encounter few surprises here, especially in the level design, and with the expansions you will have to put in quite a few hours to complete the game. Team Ninja will release Rise of the Ronin at the beginning of this year and this is a nice game in the same style to pick up in the meantime.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a difficult game to judge. The world of Pandora is ideal for an open world game and the conflict between the Na'vi and the RDA ensures that there is plenty to do for the player. The game looks great and the soundtrack from the film is also present here. The moments where all elements click together perfectly give the player an extremely rich gaming experience. Unfortunately, the game contains a lot of different elements that you as a player have to discover with a lot of frustration. The first ten hours are therefore more complicated than necessary. Even the menu to view your current collection of materials looks complicated. But the moment you have seen the many elements and know where everything is, you start to understand the game better. That's when you really start to enjoy this game. It is such a shame that you first have to work hard in this game.
