Silent Hill f is a true Silent Hill. It's true that its setting and combat system—which is clumsy and boring—are very different to what we know on the series, but if we look beyond the superficial, we discover that it's an evolution of the themes and horror stories that the cursed town franchise has always handled. If we add to that an impressive Asian horror atmosphere, terrifying enemy designs, and an excellent and tragic story about the chains that a patriarchal society places on women, we have a true gem.

There's no doubt that Ghost of Yotei is technically impressive. It has spectacular graphics, great music, and is fun to play. But it's still more of the same. The story is functional, but it's a revenge plot we've seen many times before, and there are no real innovations in combat, exploration, or other gameplay aspects. It's a very well-made game and the general public will definitely enjoy it, but those looking for "something more" or who want to get away from what so many other open-world games already offer will have to look elsewhere.

Consume Me reminded me of my own teenage dramas, even though I had radically different experiences than the protagonist, proving that the themes it addresses about growing up, maturing, and feeling pressured about one's appearance are universal. It's packed with fun minigames, has a great sense of humor, and interesting time-management mechanics. Some UI elements can be tricky, and some of the themes it covers aren't handled well, but it definitely deserves the recognition it's earned.

There's no doubt about the greatness of Hollow Knight: Silksong — It simply is one of the best metroidvania games of all time. But the discourse aroud its difficulty, lack of evolution, and lack of reviews at launch tell a more complicated story.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the world of Hell is Us since I started playing it. Hadea's story is carefully crafted so it perfectly expresses the frustration we feel towards our own species and how easily we are infected by the virus of hatred. The flaws and frustrating elements it may have on the gameplay level—it is, in part, a soulslike game—can be easily ignored thanks to the freedom of exploration it offers and the many secrets it hides. If it doesn't become a hit, it will definitely become a cult classic.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance excels with its combat system, level design, and visual art. It's packed with exciting moments, and while it suffers from a slight personality crisis due to some ill-fitting Metroidvania-esque elements and some performance issues (at least in PS5), it's well worth a try for fans of 2D action platformers.

This is an absolute treasure of video game preservation that not only shows great respect for the originals, but also presents ways to play these titles that make them even better than they already were.

Gradius Origins is a gem of video game preservation, a respectful collection of the original titles that provides all the context we need to enjoy, understand, and study them.

The Game Kitchen delights us once again with an excellent 2D action title featuring stunning pixel graphics and great music. Although it's short, it offers a great level of challenge and even more difficult activities for those who want to demonstrate their mastery of the ninja arts. Its story leaves much to be desired, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the best games of 2025.

Time Flies is a short and simple game with simple graphics, but that's not a flaw. It has excellent puzzles, a great sense of humor, and deep themes that make it a great experience.

We absolutely loved the world of Wheel World. The races offer a good challenge, the customization can completely change the way you play, and exploring the environments in search of parts and secrets is a pleasure. This is one of those games I'll return to again and again simply to enjoy exploring its environments and listening to its wonderful music, and the minor technical flaws don't detract from my experience at all.

I'm a veteran of the survival horror genre but I never truly felt comfortable with any of the control options it offers and its narrative never felt satisfying. But for every flaw it has, there's one thing it truly excels at: the setting is exquisite, it perfectly handles the retro visual style, and it has excellent puzzles and great level design. Definitely worth a try for genre fans who are always looking for more classic-flavored experiences.

These remastered versions of Patapon are more than an exersice in nostalgia. They're a glimpse into a different era when genres now considered "casual" demanded a lot of dedication from their players. Some of their elements—like the need to grind—may seem dated, but that's the kind of games they are. Even if they're frustrating, their charisma and devilishly catchy rhythms keep us glued to the screen. It's a shame they didn't include Patapon 3.

Quantum Witch tells a proudly queer and humorous story about complex themes such as religion, manipulation, divinity, and freedom. It could have offered more in terms of gameplay, but the multiple narrative paths and its adorable aesthetic left me more than satisfied.

Where the first Death Stranding was original and daring, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is repetitive and boring. It's a sequel too scared to stray from its predecessor. The new tools and scenarios are nothing more than window dressing for a repetitive experience, accompanied by a bland story filled with ideas that Hideo Kojima had used much better in other games. Its technical quality is impressive and it features great performances, but only those who finished the previous game and were left wanting more of the same will be able to fully appreciate it.

While we greatly appreciate that it doesn't fall into the microtransaction and monetization trap of other games-as-a-service, FBC Firebreak doesn't offer anything new or interesting. It doesn't make good use of Control's lore or more bizarre elements, and while it can occasionally offer fun and exciting moments, it's nothing special.

Bithell Games was overly ambitious with its time-loops idea, resulting in several poorly implemented mechanics. The combat is mediocre and the exploration somewhat repetitive, but Tron: Catalyst has a very good story with relevant themes, intriguing lore, and a great setting that may make it worthwhile for fans of the series.

Copycat is a pretty effective game at manipulating the emotions of cat lovers. While I feel it lacks narrative elements, some of its minigames are too simplistic, and it doesn't quite manage to fully grasp all of its themes, is a short experience that may be worthwhile.

This is a niche game that probably won't appeal to a large portion of the fighting game community and the lack of an online mode doesn't help. However, its concept is very appealing, and fans of the films it references will inevitably be drawn to it, even if only to give it a look. It's a game made for a very specific and small group of players, but you may belong to that group and not even know it.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 not only secures a spot on my list of the best games of 2025, but also on my list of favorite games of all time. I'm in love with its wonderful, mystery-filled story, its long-suffering yet charismatic characters, its secret-filled map, and its perfectly balanced combat system. Some elements could be more polished, but that doesn't take away from its title of a work of art.
