However, the strengths of Silly Polly Beast outweigh its flaws. The atmosphere of a Russian provincial town, combined with stunning visuals and an engaging storyline, does its job-immersing the player in a mysterious world shrouded in demonic fog.

Silly Polly Beast is a great indie game that might really be a candidate for horror game of the year. Its tale is morally ambiguous and has story beats that aren't always clear. And the gameplay is so good that it keeps the tension high all the time, and I mean all the time.

It's a good game that mixes a lot of genres so we have a little of twin-stick shooter with melee combat in arenas that feel a little "hotlinemiamilike", survival horror sections and even a little skating. The atmosphere is amazing, the soundtrack is a beast and the plots works well. But the unbalanced combat and awful stealth mechanics really hurt my feelings for the game. I'll remember it fondly, but I don't know If I will wanna play it again.

The only real thing holding it back from greatness is its difficulty. Those sudden spikes break the pacing and make it hard to fully enjoy what the game is doing so well elsewhere. There were multiple moments where I thought, “Okay, this is it, I'm done,” only to boot it back up an hour later because I couldn't shake it. That's the magic of Silly Polly Beast — it frustrates you, but it also pulls you back in.

Use a Potion

Silly Polly Beast is strange, stylish, and unapologetically rough around the edges, but that’s EXACTLY what makes it so damn memorable. Its combat can frustrate and could do with some balancing, whilst the difficulty will certainly wear some players down, yet its world, attitude, and sheer creative confidence are impossible to ignore. It’s not a perfect ride by any stretch of the imagination, but for all its jagged edges, Silly Polly Beast really is proof that a strong vibe can go a long way. I might be a little bit generous with my score, especially since combat could frustrate, but I loved the world and storytelling so much that the game has instantly earned a special little place in my heart.

While its visuals and music are superb and the narrative has some good ideas, Silly Polly Beast is heavily burdened by clunky, unresponsive combat that drags down what otherwise could have been a unique and interesting psychological survival horror game.
