Chris Capel's Reviews
If you already own the Season Pass for Far Cry 5 give it a go, but we doubt you'd want to buy Hours of Darkness separately. Save your money for the far more fun sounding zombie and alien expansions.
Battletech is an addictive strategy game that smushes everything we love into one game, and dares us not to love it. It combines Firefly, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, XCOM, and giant Mechs punching each other and shooting laser beams.
Far Cry 5 is lots of good fun that'll have you entertained for a long time - and in that it lives up the series. The shooting never stops being entertaining and there's a lot of game here, with many options on how to do things, and it at least feels different enough from previous games to be a worthy sequel - unlike Far Cry 4 and Primal. So in that it's a success and we can't imagine anyone being truly disappointed in Far Cry 5.
'Same Stitch' is a spectacular end to arguably Telltale's best series, and one that encourages players to replay the entire thing to see how things could've gone. If you haven't picked up Batman: The Enemy Within, do so - you won't be disappointed.
The final part of Wolfenstein 2's DLC Season Pass is lots of fun, but it's probably the worst episode.
The Council, just going by the first episode, is a very good attempt to evolve the choose-your-own adventure game style, going far beyond what Telltale have attempted.
Battlezone: Combat Commander is a good remaster of a good game, but neither parts are perfect.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is not only a great remaster, but a massive improvement to an already excellent game.
I took it all as a homage to the likes of No One Lives Forever and I was massively entertained, and I wish Jessica Valiant had her own spin-off game. The bar's been raised, Episode 3!
All choices felt important, the opening raid on the SANCTUS facility was action, and I was so enthralled by this episode I almost didn't notice that Batman wasn't in it at all (at least he wasn't for me). On the downside it's the shortest episode yet at only 70-odd minutes, but I was entertained by all of it and I can't wait for the finale.
The Freedom Chronicles Episode 1 – The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe Review
Things get ridiculously tough towards the end and the game starts to forget about the fun enemies, but with this expansion Deck13 have finally made a Dark Souls alternative people might want to play. If you own The Surge, you need to take A Walk In The Park.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 could've been game of the year, but some key mistakes basically ruin the whole thing.
'Fractured Mask' isn't the most eventful episode, but it's still fun, all the characters are clashing wonderfully, and it's fun waiting for the hammer to fall and your choices to bite you hard. Which will probably happen in Episode 4. We can't wait.
Injustice 2 is by far the best fighting game this year, and may very well be the best fighting game on PC.
We get the impression that Sonic Team wanted Forces to be the Best Sonic Game Ever, with a Greatest Hits package of everything good in the series, but they didn't have the time, money or talent to accomplish this.
The best single-player FPS this year
If The Stick Of Truth was an all-time classic episode of South Park, The Fractured But Whole is merely a very good one.
The Evil Within 2 is an excellent game and a wonderful survival horror, perfectly mixing Silent Hill and Resident Evil 4 while correcting all the flaws of the original.
An excellent sequel that goes on for perhaps a bit too long, just like The Hobbit
