Chris Capel's Reviews
In short: not quite the evolution in multiplayer gaming we hoped for. Get friends together or good all-round players and Evolve can be a blast, but anything less than that and you'll be bored in far too short a time.
Despite my complaints, The Lost Lords is a great episode of Telltale's epic Game of Thrones story, and while slightly less shocking than the first episode it's certainly the best second episode in a season they've ever done.
Dying Light is a very impressive game that's clearly had a lot of care and attention put into it.
Grim Fandango really is a masterpiece, although it's not a completely perfect one. The story, world, voice acting, music, script and style are some of the best gaming has to offer, rivalling the best animated movies. The puzzles are 80% superb, best the adventure genre can do, and 20% frustrating as all hell.
Probably Petroglyph's best game (especially if you're not a Star Wars fan), it won't steal the RTS crown from Blizzard or Creative Assembly but if you want a straight fun strategy you won't regret being absorbed by Grey Goo. It's still a stupid title, though.
While the "HD Remastered" tag feels a little hollow, if you just consider this a slightly updated re-release of a fantastic game then I can heartily recommend Resident Evil HD Remastered. Just remember to have a notebook and pen handy.
Don't buy it. And there's no multiplayer either, in case you were wondering.
While it has some minor foibles, and you undoubtedly need to have watched up to the end of the show's Season 3 to get what's going on, if you're a fan of the show you'll definitely love this. Telltale have tied themselves to Westeros brilliantly - now let's see if they can survive their Second Episode Is The Worst In The Season curse.
A worthy purchase certainly, but only if you're prepared to accept Far Cry 3.5 rather than Far Cry 4.
All in all though I can't think of a single reason you'd want to play Escape Dead Island over a thousand similar, better games on Steam. Most of them have zombies in them anyway.
It's definitely a shame TT Games ditched the open world city design, so consequently vehicles are worthless, but the large Super Mario Galaxy-style planets you can visit and the sheer mind-boggling amount of content softens the blow. I had a lot of fun playing it, I'll probably spend another 30 hours getting 100% everything, and… wait, did Kevin Smith just reference Tim Burton's failed Superman Lives project? BEST GAME EVER BUY IT NOW.
Randal's Monday gets so much right it's depressing that it gets the crucial gameplay part wrong.
Poltergeist is a very fun puzzle game, that really taxes the brain muscles occasionally but it's all done in such a lovely way that you never want to give in. It's addictive, entertaining, and makes me want to be a ghost. Can I call it "spooktacular"? No, best not, I've got more class than that. Oh, screw it - SPOOKTACULAR!
All Costume Quest needed was a more interesting battle system, better quests and a longer more involving story to be a great game. Costume Quest 2 has better quests and a more interesting story, and a better designed world. It's still got the excellent writing, sound, and music that'll keep most people happy, but it was the battle system that needed an overhaul most and it hasn't had it.
If you like the idea of Resident Evil 4 crossed half-and-half with Silent Hill then The Evil Within is the game for you. Just be prepared to put up with 30 FPS.
All these are just minor things however, and while they did drag the score down from the hallowed 9s they don't stop Alien Isolation from being a superb game and quite possibly the best Alien game ever (although Monolith's Aliens Vs Predator 2 comes close). At the very least SEGA have redeemed themselves and the franchise. Alien Isolation is a nerve-wrecking, stomach-twisting, bowel-moving, edge-of-your-seat experience and is unlike every other game out there. Now this is true "survival horror".
Ethan Carter is a powerful, entrancing game that'll live with you long after the credits have rolled. Just don't let anyone spoil it for you.
If you're going to get it do so now, because there won't be anyone around to play with by Christmas. Gauntlet needs fun, badly.
I'm sorry guys, but Hack 'N' Slash needs a bit more time in the programming oven.
It's baarilliant. Now I'm going to get the flock out of here.
