Samuel Guglielmo's Reviews

My name is Samuel Guglielmo and I like to write about video games. I started playing games when my dad brought home a PlayStation when I was 5 or so, and haven't really stopped since. I have a strong preference towards more action-ey games, but do enjoy artsy fartsy walking simulator games from time to time. I also want to love RTSes but am bad at them. Honestly unless its realistic sports, realistic racing, or a 4x game I'll probably enjoy it. Unless it's bad.
7 / 10.0 - Doom VFR
Dec 15, 2017

When Doom VFR is at its best it's a fast paced game that uses VR to shine. It just holds up the action a little too often, and requires making some control compromises.

Resident Evil Revelations suffers from some problems, but none that stop it from being one of the stronger entries to the Resident Evil series.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is a pretty large misstep for the developer despite a few good moments.

Super Beat Sports only really contains one game mode that is really worth playing, with the other four falling between "okay" and "boring".

League of War: VR Arena is a sloppily made RTS that suffers from bad mechanics, poor controls, extremely unlikable characters, and an unbalanced local competitive mode.

Call of Duty: WWII has a good but forgettable campaign. It has a fantastic new multiplayer mode surrounded by some mediocre ones. It has an interesting entry to Zombies that squanders its potential. There's a ton of content here, and all of it is good, but none of it really gets above that bar.

The worst episode in a struggling season by far, Don't Stop Believin' proved that I should have just stopped believing in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series long ago.

Assassin's Creed Origins is exactly what the series needed. Changing up just enough elements to feel like a major difference in formula without ripping out the heart of the series, this is easily the best entry into the series in a long time.

When Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is at its best, the words I would use to describe it include "soulless", "mediocre", and "annoying". Somehow the game is rarely at its best, leading to a total disaster.

The Evil Within 2 combines a great open world with some fun gameplay and smart design to really improve upon the original game.

Megaton Rainfall is the first video game that genuinely made me feel like Superman. It just has a few rough edges to work out.

9.5 / 10.0 - Code 7

Code 7's first two episodes are an almost absurd success, combining powerful story telling with creative gameplay into one of the most exciting episodic game launches I've ever seen.

The world of The Solus Project is totally worth exploring thanks to an interesting story and great art direction. It's just not much fun to actually play.

The best episode of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series yet, Who Needs You has a few good moments but still can't pull the season out of its general under performance.

Batman: The Enemy Within's second episode continues most of the strengths from the first, with the lack of any real action being the only downside. Thankfully, the extremely strong story and characters continue to shine here.

2.5 / 10.0 - Rogue Trooper Redux
Oct 17, 2017

I get the feeling that Rogue Trooper was once an average game that had a few neat ideas. The problem is that it's now 2017, and nearly all of its ideas either don't work properly, or have been improved upon everywhere else. Rogue Trooper Redux is a perfect remastering of a game that shouldn't have been remastered.

Hidden Dragon Legend has some brief moments of fun, but they're all lost in its terrible story, clumsy platforming, boring combat, and ugly graphics.
