Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Critic Reviews
View All (18 total)Episode Five brings the season to a positive close, and while we all like a happy ending, it does perhaps paper over a few of the more negative choices you've likely made. The character-driven aspects of the series have been brilliant, as has learning more about each of the Guardians' pasts, but it's still been foisted by Telltale's creaky engine and often dull interactivity. I'd still be excited for another season, or indeed for another Marvel property to be given the same treatment, but we need some real changes made to how you physically take part in the story to keep people coming back for more.
Telltale held the power to make it a memorable addition to the Telltale library, but they let it slip away.
This game resembles a roller coaster with a weak first episode, perfectly executed second, slightly weak third, best fourth and fairly good finale. If you like episodic adventures, then you should try Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

There are points where Guardians of the Galaxy is barely playable because of how terrible the engine is. Yes, the story at least has some heart to it, and at key points your decisions feel like they matter. But it mostly feels like Telltale was creatively backed into a corner with this property full of oddball characters, and the end result is far from the studio's best work.
